Who is winning the war of Terror?

The War on Terror, or WOT, is a term used by leaders to justify military and security action taken against a perceived threat from those who would destabilize the current World Order. Normally, we think of the protagonists as the liberal democratic West against some fanatical fundamentalist group such as Al Qaeda and its many affiliated organisations. In the popular psyche it is a war between pro-Western Governments against fundamentalist Islamic terrorists.

WOT was a term coined after the attacks on the Twin Towers on 9/11 where the US declared war against those who would perpetrate such atrocities. WOT has been used to justify actions against the Taliban in Afghanistan, against the Saddamist regime in Iraq, Russian intervention in Chechnya and even by Israel in its military incursions into Lebanon. It has also been used by Western Governments to justify the use of additional resources and additional powers in the name of national security.

Writing now on the day of the cease fire in Southern Lebanon and post the claims by British Government to have foiled one of the largest attempted attacks by terrorists, we can begin to see the outlines of what may occur in the development of this War.

It is clear that Western Governments have tacitly allowed the Israelis to attack and damage Hez Bollah in Southern Lebanon. Similarly, it is clear that Hez Bollah were encouraged by their backers to heightened the tensions in Israel through their various attacks especially when Israel were dealing with the tricky issues raised by Hamas's political victory in the Palestinian election.

On the face of current events, it would appear that the 'West' is winning this war on terror. Hez Bollah's strength has been severely curtailed and the cease fire agreement would appear to emasculate them as a major force in Southern Lebanon. Similarly, the thwarting the latest suicide bombers would suggest that the Western security services are beginning to 'get a handle' on the terrorists. It is telling that both Bush and Blair have highlighted the importance of the intelligence information obtained by Pakistan in foiling this strike.

However, despite these successes, there are sufficient indications from both these events to suggest that the WOT is entering a new phase. Far from defeating the enemy, I believe the West has left their strategic position weaker. There is a mind-set, particularly espoused by the popular press in the West, that the opposition is somehow naïve and unsophisticated. Because they have not the material, military and economic advantages of the West, they will inevitably be defeated. This is both an untrue and a naïve position.

Looking at history, victory has not always accrued to the mightiest. Look at David and Goliath. Look at the battle of Marathon. Examine Alexander the Great's conquest of the Persian Empire. Even in the last century, look at how the Communists defeated the Nationalists in China; look at America's defeat in South Vietnam. In all these cases 'weaker 'forces were able to defeat a militarily superior force. Only hubris would allow the West to believe that the Al Qaeda strategists are inferior to the West's military strategists.

There is a saying in military history, "generals always fight the last war". It happened at the beginning WW1 where the generals were planning for a war of manoeuvre and were shocked to be embroiled in continent wide trench warfare. This was despite the clear indications that such attritional battles were likely; The American Civil War and the Crimean War showed how such a style of warfare could easily develop if opponents were reasonably matched. Similarly, at the start of WW2 the British High Command was surprised by the German Blitzkrieg tactics. It is ironic that it was the Wehrmacht strategist who implemented such ideas first proposed by a British military thinker, Basil Liddel-Hart.

I have a sense that the Western strategists, both military and political, are fighting the 'wrong war'. Yes, Western military force is overwhelming in conventional warfare; see how quickly the Allies defeated Saddam in the two Iraq Wars. However, the WOT is not a conventional war. It is asymmetric warfare. The two sides have not similar capabilities. Instead the weaker side has to be smarter as to where and when to attack. Unlike a conventional war, WOT is not a war between nation states nor groupings of nation states. It is a war against a shadowy enemy whose motivations and modus operandi is not conventional military. Indeed, the West has recognised this in that detainees in Guantanamo Bay are not dealt with according to the Geneva Convention.

Unlike a conventional war, it is not clear what the objectives are between the two proponents. When countries and alliance fight a conventional war, it is normally for some economic or political advantage. When one side feels that it has lost too much or it feels its aims cannot be met, we have a possibility of a peace settlement. But in WOT, the West do not know who are their opponents apart from some shadowy figures that represent the high command of Al Qaeda. In conventional warfare, there is always the rhetoric that one side will fight to the last. However, the reality is that the civil population will put pressure on a Government to settle for peace when all hopes are gone. The West's enemy in WOT are not a country but a movement. There are no constituents clamouring for a settlement.

In the WOT conflict both sides seek the utter destruction of the other party. I would guess Al Qaeda seeks implementation of Islamic Law across the whole world. I would guess the West seek the elimination Al Qaeda. Neither side can achieve its objectives through conventional military means.

It would appear the Al Qaeda strategy is to cause disruption to Western Societies by undertaking high-profile attacks on civilian and 'soft' targets to provoke a reaction against the Muslims in those societies. As rift widens between Muslims and non-Muslims, the Muslims become ripe for indoctrination into their revolutionary views and can be enrolled into a jihad. This strategy is simple, plausible and implement-able by a small core of zealots.

The West' strategy on the other hand is neither as clear cut nor as understandable. First of all, what started off as a focused strategy to eliminate Al Qaeda and its associated organisation became enlarged to target all enemies of the West (that is, USA). There was some logic in attacking and invading Afghanistan as it destroyed Al Qaeda training facilities. However when WOT was enlarged to justify the invasion of Iraq and potential action against North Korea and Iran. This became politically, "A Bridge Too Far" and WOT has become a public relations shield for any number of policies. Instead of having a clear strategic objective in WOT, the West have actually made the objectives diffused and impossible to achieve. How do we know when we have won the War On Terror?

There is no obvious connection between the Ba'athist party in Iraq and Al Qaeda. Indeed, Saddam persecuted such Islamists more than any Western state. Not being a Middle East or a Far East specialist, I cannot be sure but I would suspect the regimes in North Korea and Iran are as inimical to Al Qaeda as any Western liberal democracy. So by "moving the goal posts" Western leaders have defused the focus of the WOT.

Imagine the following hypothetical scenario. Suppose an anti-Mugabe group started a bombing campaign against his supporters in Zimbabwe. Further, suppose this group were pro-West. Would the Western governments act against this group under the WOT? Remember, the West would not intervene in Darfur, Sudan or Somalia where the death tolls exceeded 500,000 as oppose to the less than 1,500 civilians killed in the Lebanese conflict. As the Native Americans used to say, "White man speaks with forked tongue!" Indeed the opponents acted against so far in the WOT have been originally supported and nurtured by the American CIA. Saddam was a CIA client as was Osama Bin Laden!

America's and Britain's political cover for Israel in its action against Hez Bollah also sheds light on the West's implementation of it's WOT strategy. Yes, Hez Bollah and Hamas are both organisations that espouse terror tactics but so did the Zionists who later founded Israel. Ben Gurion, the first Israeli Prime Minister was on the British Protectorate of Palestine's list of wanted terrorists. The Lebanese conflict is an illustration of how the WOT has expanded to mean protecting Western interests. Yes, Hez Bollah did provoke the Israeli attacks but the delays in arranging the cease fire was an attempt by the West to weaken Iranian and Syrian influence in that area. It does not militarily affect the original WOT aim of eliminating Al Qaeda but may, in fact, strengthen Al Qaeda's position.

Although Israel has 'won' the military campaign, it is a pyrrhic victory. All the destruction in Southern Lebanon has done is expanded the base of support for future anti-Israeli and anti-West terrorists. Unless something is done in that area, The Israelis have sown the next generation of suicide bombers. This is a harvest that we will all reap unless we take action. To stop this happening, a 'Marshall Plan' similar to the one in set up to reconstruct Germany after WW2 should be instituted for Lebanon and Palestine.

In the West itself, the heightened awareness of terrorist threats has seen an erosion of tolerance and freedom. Any person wearing traditional Muslim garb is viewed with suspicion and apprehension. States are allocating more resources and taking more powers to 'protect' its citizens. Yet at the same time, we are exhorted to live as 'normal' a life as possible and trust in the police and the security service to look after us. In the UK, we have already shot an innocent man by mistake. Of the about 1,000 arrests made in the UK on anti-terrorists charges less than a handful of these have lead to a successful prosecution. A similar pattern can be found in the US.

So what does this all mean? In warfare, the side that can operate its own strategy and impose that on its opponents will eventually win. In these terms, the strategy of Al Qaeda is working. There is a widening rift between Muslim attitudes and the non-Muslim attitudes in the West. The WOT is not a conventional war but a war of hearts and minds. Sadly, the West is losing this war at the moment. So what can the West do?

First of all, the West must re-examine its strategy, or at least, the implementation of its strategy. Using the WOT as a PR shield when it wishes to act in its own interests just detracts from the potential power to mobilise public opinion. Secondly, it must recognize the WOT's battlefield is in the hearts and minds of all people. Just because the West and its allies can defeat any military force does not mean it can win. There is a real risk that the West can win all its battles but the last. The way forward can be seen from history.

In the battle against insurgents, one of the most successful campaigns in the last century was the British against the communist insurgents in Thailand and Bhutan. Instead of placing massive firepower into the field, the British undertook small patrols in the villages. The soldiers were tasked with winning the hearts and minds of the villagers in the jungle who might be able to harbour the insurgents. Further, funds were made available to help the indigenous population to improve their lot.

In wartime, populations can be mobilised to achieve much despite suffering the effects of war. In the UK, in WW2 manufacturing output in the UK increased despite day and night bombing by the Luftwaffe. Similarly, Harris's 1,000 bomber raids seemed to stiffen the resolve of the German people towards the latter part of WW2. Even in Japan, the US incendiary raids on major Japanese cities did not cause the collapse of civilian morale. It was only using the nuclear weapons that lead to the Government surrendering.

The first thing is not deny that terrorism will not change ordinary individual's lives. It has already and it will profoundly change lives further. It has always been nonsense to pretend that warfare does not affect civilians. If in doubt ask the citizens of London, Dresden or Nanking. If there is a War On Terror, then enrol the peoples and mobilise the population to fight this as a war. The Land Girls and the National servicemen who went into the mines as well as the ordinary workers in reserved jobs were just as instrumental in winning WW2 as the conscripted military personnel!

The second thing is to articulate why the War is being fought. People will not make sacrifices nor perform extraordinary feats unless they believe in the objectives of the War. If the War is a war between conflicting world views, the let us be clear what values the West are upholding in this fight and how that would differ from what the other side would impose.

I suspect this is the real weakness in the West's strategy. It seems that the Islamists have clarity as to what it wants whereas its opponents do not seem to be able to articulate and implement what it wants. This has lead many to suspect that the WOT is used to justify violence and concentration of political power to protect current vested interests. If the WOT is being fought to protect vested interests in the West, then the citizenry will not make the sacrifices that will lead to the defeat of the terrorists.

If the West is fighting to protect "the American way of life and Mom's apple pie etc" then let us be explicit about it. A more interesting set of values would be to protect a tolerant pluralistic society where people would respect each others rights to coexist and provide equal opportunities to all to practice their chosen lifestyles as long as it does not curtail other people's freedoms. Once this is done, all military and political actions should be tested against these values.

I do not subscribe to conspiracy theories normally but because the Western powers have not done the above has lead me to suspect the WOT is being used to protect current vested interests. Why has Haliburton been awarded the majority of the reconstruction contracts in Iraq when both Dick Cheney and George Bush Junior have been executives of that company and George Bush Senior is a shareholder? Why have we seen an erosion of civil liberties on both sides of the Atlantic with the authorities being granted extensive powers of search?

This may be my personal prejudice but I do believe that WOT is not the real war. I believe that the prime movers on both sides, in the West and Al Qaeda we have people who believe that they have right on their side. They know how we should all live and will impose 'what is good for us' whether we like it or not. The real war is not the War On Terror but another battle. The protagonists are all those who want to live in a pluralistic tolerant society delighting in differences between people against those who have a hotline to God or the Absolute truth. The real war is The War Against Idealogues!

Sin embargo, es sorprendente que en el momento de la fiesta sagrada, los líderes políticos permanecieron en alta seguridad debido a las advertencias de ataque terrorista. Los conflictos están aún por resolverse, pero el Gobierno está aumentando más tropas para barrer a los grupos radicales islámicos. Mientras que los extremistas se están extendiendo cada vez más miedo a través de suicidas a fin, aterrorizar a los ciudadanos de este estado llamado República Islámica de Pakistán. Iran - the root of the world wide Terror

There are some stark days ahead for the United States and the Bush Administration in its efforts to stop the Islamic Republic of Iran from developing nuclear weapons. There is an intrinsic need to deal with Iran which is in the process of building a nuclear reactor and enriching uranium that it says would be used for its energy needs. Now we see that this nation has been thrust upon the world stage and is now at the center of international debate regarding its nuclear ambitions. Therefore, it is only logical that we should take a look at whether this fanatical Shiite state should be allowed to possess such technology. Does a land that is sitting on a sea of oil really have energy needs that could not be met by its massive reserve of crude? Would it be wise to trust the nation that launched the present wave of terror through out the world in 1979 with a nuclear arsenal? Can we continue to work closely with any nation such as Russia that would help Iran to achieve this goal? These are questions that must be answered.

During the past months, we have seen the Bush Administration making some advances toward Iran to seek to offer them some alternatives to building the bomb. There are many reasons stated why America would want to offer such carrots to Iran. One reason is that America has to show it's wimpiest "Allies" that we are ready to offer cooperation with them and to renew alliances that were strained by the war in Iraq. We will offer olive branches to Iran with an effort to appease them while Russia presses ahead in its provision of nuclear fuel to Iran. The Bush Administration must also have leverage that it would be able to lay on the table when Iran baulks at such offers so that it can get a resolution to the Security Council of the UN. It is my opinion that the UN has nothing to say about anything regarding any subject, but these are the moves that must be made towards war in a world in love with the fantasy of peace. In addition, America has to buy time to get Iraq somewhat stabilized so that we can have the troops available for round three in the war on terror. Finally, there is a growing movement of revolutionary fervor building in Iran for real freedom. They are not crying out for "Western" style freedom. For, no nation on the face of the Earth has a copyright of the cravings of liberty in the heart of man. So, there is no room for a breather. There is no way to take a vacation. There is no alternative to taking these evil men from power so that we can keep the world safe for civilization! Let all these maneuvers come as they must, but rest assured, even now, that the halls of the various offices of strategy in the United States preparations for war with the Tehran Terrorist regime are being drawn up as we speak. If not, then we are all in big trouble, because there can be no victory in the war on terror without taking out the main sponsors of the war.

The government of Iran must be removed. Just look at what Iran has produced in the world since its founding as the first major terrorist government in the world in 1979. Fundamentally, Iran's ideological doctrine, its strategic goals and its political craving to control the Middle East have not changed since Khomeini's ascent to power in 1979. In short, Iran has employed terrorism as its weapon of choice since the beginning of the revolutionary Islamic regime to achieve these aims. Terrorism is a State sponsored weapon of Iranian foreign policy.

Yael Shahar, ICT Researcher the History of Iranian Sponsored Terrorism wrote,

Since the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran, terrorism has served the regime of the ayatollahs as a tool of both domestic and foreign policy. This policy was directed against Iranian citizens inside Iran, as well as against advocates of opposition views in exile. Iran's sponsorship of terrorism has bridged ideological gaps and political divides; Teheran has provided arms and training to such groups as the Gama'a al-Islamiyah, the Egyptian al-Jihad, and the Algerian G.I.A. Al-Qaeda too, has benefited from Iranian support and expertise for more than a decade. More recently, this support has taken the form of free passage for al-Qaeda activists seeking to establish a foothold in Lebanon. There are also signs that al-Qaeda has sought the help of Iran in deepening it involvement in Palestinian terrorism against Israel.

The triumph of the Iranian revolution in February 1979 kindled a burst of radical actions by Iran that only merit the title terrorism. These include kidnappings sanctioned and sponsored by the government itself, such as the taking of American hostages in the first years of the revolution, and reputed Iranian support for and suspected direct involvement in Hezbollah operations in Lebanon, including the bombings of U.S. installations and hostage-taking throughout the 1980s. The US Department of State's report "Patterns of Global Terrorism: 1997," released in April 1998, states that "notwithstanding some conciliatory statements in the months after President Khatami's inauguration in August 1997, Iran remains the most active state sponsor of terrorism. There is no evidence that Iranian policy has changed, and Iran continues both to provide significant support to terrorist organizations and to assassinate dissidents abroad."

During the Iran-Iraq War, Iran pursued a strategy of maritime terror, using unmarked gunboats and floating mines to attack noncombatant shipping. Numerous assassinations of enemies abroad in the late 1980s and 1990s were widely and persuasively attributed to Iranian official sponsorship, and Iran was accused of sponsoring operations by other militant organizations, such as the Argentinean bombings of 1992 and 1994 and the 1996 Khobar Towers bombing, attributed to Hezbollah organizations in Lebanon and Saudi Arabia. Iran is currently suspected of supporting terrorist acts against Israel through its support of radical Palestinian factions.

We may never have all the facts about many of the terrorist incidents of which Iran is accused. Assuming, however, that the following discussion of Iran's record on terrorism and the main driving forces of that record are at least roughly accurate, certain conclusions can be drawn about Iranian policy on terrorism, the direction in which it is headed today, and possible U.S. responses.

Iran remains the ideological center of the America-hatred pervading the Islamic Middle East. That theocracy began warring with America when its rulers took 52 Americans hostage in 1979. Highlights of Iran's terrorism on Americans include the bombing and murder of 241 Marines in Beirut in 1983 and the killing of 19 US servicemen bombed at Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia in 1996.

More recently, Iran is known to harbor Al Qaeda operatives who orchestrated the bombing of a Western residential compound in Saudi Arabia in 1993 that killed nine Americans. Iran sends Islamic agitators and militants into both US-controlled Iraq and Afghanistan, and sponsors such terrorist groups as Hezbollah, Hamas and Islamic Jihad in Lebanon, Israel, Gaza and the West Bank.

In January 2002, Israel confiscated 50 tons of weapons to the terrorist Palestinian Authority from a ship from Iran. A month before this, former Iranian "President" Hashemi Rafsanjani stated publicly that when the Islamic world has nuclear weapons "The strategy of the West will hit a dead end, since a single atomic bomb has the power to completely destroy Israel." Is not this one quotation from the actual president of Iran enough to do everything needed to stop Iran from acquiring a nuclear arsenal? In 1993 an Iranian opposition group discovered another secret nuclear facility in Natanz, undoubtedly part of Iran's advanced nuclear weapons program.

It is obvious that Iran is the root of Islamic terrorism. Only in destroying this country's theocracy could we finally declare a major victory in the war on terrorists. Meanwhile, the Iranian rebels fight to establish a government that that will be secular in nature but Islamic in principle. They desire free speech nationwide general strikes have been held in the country with the hope of bringing about the end for their ruling mullahs and ayatollahs. It is apparent that the time is ripe for the Bush administration to topple this regime. Bush stated in his State of the Union Address that "America stands squarely by their side." The time will come when he will have to make that literal. As long as the Iran of today continues, the war on Terror will never end. Furthermore, if this terrorist regime is allowed to possess a nuclear bomb there will be a very good chance the war on terror will be lost.

These are just a few facts that reveal that the next war has to be with Iran. Though the dangers now revolving around North Korea are explosive indeed, the most pressing area of concern on the globe is Iran. Fear is a lullaby that puts us fatally fast to sleep. America may well be playing the song and dance but there is every indication that war in the land of fanatical Shiites is looming on the horizon. It is OK to dance with a harmless bad dancer. Stepped on toes can be mended but it is a fatal mistake to dance with someone who holds a knife to your back. Ambassador Thomas McNamara, U.S. Coordinator for Counter-terrorism has stated that, "Our problem is not with Islam," he said. "It is with those who use violence and terror to advance their political objectives." It is clear that Ambassador McNamara is short sighted in these words. Radical Islam is all about terrorism as its weapon of control. There can be no compromising with those in Islam who have caused that religion to mutate into a cultish brood of blood-thirsty vermin. There is no alternative to removing them. There is no room for fear or fatigue. There will be no peace until all the terror-supporting nations have been routed and destroyed. America is wise to make sure that all its assets are in place. Yet, if America allows Iran to possess nuclear weapons then it will face the same writing on the wall that a biblical king of Persia, (Iran), once faced which spelled his demise. It read, "You have been measured with scales and been found wanting!" President Bush's toughest task is not in mustering up the courage to do what is needed. He has already demonstrated that he is up to that task. His task will be to bring a sick, perverse, weak, trembling world along with him. For this war will demand international support in a way that was never needed in Iraq. Does the west love its freedom? Is America willing to take the measures that without which will render the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq useless? I predict we will take out this rogue regime and the world and America will be far better for it. For the absence of war does not equal peace. Refusal of war will most definitely spell defeat!

El Terror de intensificación

The world was never peaceful the day man came to rule. Since ages, man craved for more, and more brutality. Man never was satiated what he got, his greed made him destroy the peace, the peace of mankind, the world. God, in any way, never wanted him to harm any living being or destroy the peace. To end his selfish needs, he did always destroy. He is a born sadist, a masochist, a psychopath, literally. However, some men never wanted to fight or to hurt anyone. Did that matter? No! They were slain by the ones who wanted to rule, and to spread terror in their innocent hearts. This made them fight back, once again, the fight. Either for a good cause, or whatever, in the end man became the slayer, and is a slayer by slaying the other.

Religion became a crucial subject today, and man is fighting by tagging his selfish war as "Religion or Religious War or Jihad". Today, Jihad became a synonym for terror, and Muslims became the suspects all over. Well, this is not because of anything but because of the ones who wage war against peace. Who are they? Guess some frustrated people who did not achieve anything in life and now want to do something and doing it by tagging as religious war. When they could not do anything in life, when they could not become really religious, when they could not obey what God wanted them to be; they became this__ Bloody slayers, killing only innocent people, who never ever harmed anyone, to prove that they are religious. Are they?

Many centuries ago when Islam came into existence, it was necessary to fight against non-Muslims because Islam was in danger. Some people did not want this new religion (then) to flourish. So Muslims had to fight back in order to protect their religion and this is a long, past tale. Islam teaches peace, brotherhood, and love. Today, some people take quotes out of context and pick those things and then fight for God knows what reason. There were crusades between Christians and Muslims in the past, no matter what; both sides had to suffer the ferocious realities_ the death, the pain, the sorrow, almost every agonized thing. There were religious battles all over the world, no one can deny that. Everyone everywhere fought to protect their identity. People fought to protect their families; they fought to protect their kingdoms, their religions, their dignity, and their everything. No kingdom ever survived without fighting, but that was centuries ago, and not today.

Today, everyone has power and liberty to live, to eat, to survive and roam peacefully. But no! They do not want this, they want more. They want their name, and they want to degrade the religion. They never are satisfied; they want more blood, more innocent souls leaving bodies for no reason. The ones who slay for no reason are not the ones who boast they are religious; they are just mere sadists, releasing their frustration on helpless people, or rather fanatical coward freaks.

India, our India, became a hub for terrorism because of the people who live on some land given to them some years ago to survive when they were not happy in this peaceful country. And now, they only come and hit us instead of bowing down forever for the favor that our country did to them some time ago. No, they want more from India; they come and hit us right on our face. It is not only the ones who come to India and stay here like frustrated beggars, but they spread terror. And also, some Indians who mingle with them and become betrayals of their own country without realizing that they have been provided with food, shelter, and freedom by India.

There was a time when riots took place and yes, minority has suffered, but it is irrelevant to open the closed chapter again and spread terror. Even the majority suffered. Both ends, innocent Hindus and innocent Muslims died and faced unexplainable terror. Whatever happened decades ago happened and almost equally happened. If the corrupt Government takes years to solve issues, then it is not necessary for them to take revenge in this manner by killing innocent people, mostly women and children. If they want to do something, then they must understand their own religion first. They must respect the country's laws and then try to change things into better, than making more critical.

India has witnessed worst communal riots in the past and unfortunately, our Indians, common men are so dumb that they did not realize that it was all related with politics. Politics or whatever, it is past. Nothing can undo the past, and nothing in this whole world can bring the past time back because God only gives time and takes away every second. Other than forgetting, they create more grisly memories. Babri Masjid riots, Godhra riots, or whatever riots, all is past. One cannot sit and plan all his life by wailing and weeping for whatever happened. It only makes things damned, and more damned. It disturbs one's mentality and social harmony.

Indians know very well that the system is not in rhythm and almost all are corrupt and hungry for bribes and all. If there were no loop holes, then there was no question of these terrorists entering in our arena and striking right in our hearts by piercing our souls. There is always some or the other goof ups in our security. Either they take money and let them enter or they keep fake encounters alive by tagging some innocent people as terrorists. The ego is all what they have. To tag someone or the other person to hide their faces from media and people, or to take bribes.

India is now wounded, literally. Almost every major state has suffered the terrible loss. Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Malegaon, etc. What else now? Even after these deadly blasts, still we live in fear or maybe waiting for our turn in the next one. The worst part is that the dead, mostly, are just the ones who never saw life. Many innocent kids died, hardly 9-year-old or 10, 11... many helpless women died, many men died. How could the people, who claim to be our security, did not take more measures to prevent more blasts or terror? We just know how to blame the British for ruling India for centuries. We made them run long way back, we cannot just blame one another for the things that go wrong right under our own roof, under our own house.

We pay taxes, and where do they go? Elections? Orgies of politicians? Where? We pay taxes for our safety and betterment and no one has guts to question them. And the ones who do, they suffer. All are scared of this or the other thing. In fact, we are used to this; we made our habit to live like this and to adjust with everything. They could provide more security or they could just eliminate all terrorists by taking smart moves, but no, they would not. They boast, just do boast by chewing pan_masalas and spitting on the walls, provided them by people's money. Else, like shameless animals, demand money by spreading their filthy hands under the desk. And we, the people, follow them by chewing more of it and spitting anywhere we feel like. How does it matter? All do, and it is our duty to do so, right?

Today, people live in terror. They do not know what will happen next. I can feel their fear, trying to hide behind those hopeless, helpless eyes because their fear is same like mine when I go out. When I am in train, I just do not know what will happen next. I admit, I get suspicious when I find any person wearing cap, or traditional kurta or have beard. I cannot deny my feelings that I suspect him to be a fanatical fundamentalist who came here to sacrifice his life in the name of religion. I am scared of my own identity, people from my own religion. I can hide my fears and feelings from the world but cannot hide when I sleep. The restlessness of waking up in the morning, the hope of reaching office safely, the prayers for everyone's safety, this is all what became life now. I guess not for me, but for every Indian.

I just happen to see some enticing captions like- "Help us to help you or Alert Mumbai (whatever), or check the bags in your local train, etc. Is this our responsibility to check things? They cannot expect us to check every bag in packed locals of Mumbai. We can never precisely judge anyone or any bag that is carrying the explosives. When we could not even notice the minor LPG gas explosives being carried in locals recently, then how could we, the common man, speculate that something dangerous is lying inside some black bag or whatever? We are common people and we cannot every time stare at things when we are filled with stress and tension of day"s work. We get tired when we catch locals after work, our minds do not work at that time... we wish to get down from train and reach home safely... we feel like soldiers out to fight with no weapons, no armor, but just with some unknown hope, a hopeful prayer, and self-doubting will power... and then suddenly we hear some boom... we feel something piercing our ears...shrill, loud something... the heat melting the body, something rushing inside with unimaginable, inevitable speed... then the sensation of body being ripped apart and that is the last thing we hear other than a phone's ring from our family member.... We open our eyes just to find our bodies lying somewhere, completely mutilated, out of soul...and then we cannot get back into that body because we are through.... Thanks to our security!

¿Por qué el "Guerra contra el Terror" de Bush es Fated a Fail

Terrorism is an ideological problem, not a military problem. It is a mental illness caused by a lethal set of virulent group dynamics masquerading as religion. The time is long overdue for us to take our "politically correct," bloodstained, white gloves off so-called religious groups that are in reality bands of dangerous, brainwashed criminals.

What happens when you mix power politics with the Christian strain of religious fundamentalism? You get a toxic stew of arrogance and absolutism; a medieval us-versus-them, God-is-on-our-side mind set that marches right into the jaws of the ideologically-inspired, mass paranoia of Islamic terrorist groups. Thus each group acts and reacts based on the same deadly dynamics, each reinforcing the other's paranoia and hysteria.

The political rhetoric surrounding the rationale for the "War on Terror" continues to sound more like a religious crusade, the political consequences of cult-like group dynamics that, to survive, depend upon creating outside enemies. With an unsettling irony, we become the aggressor, the global bully, terrorizing tens of thousands of innocent civilians (between 27,700 and 31,200 killed in Iraq alone, according to a British-American research group in London) in a desperate attempt to destroy a member of George W's designated "axis of evil." Are we now going to be political police, imposing our concept of democracy around the globe?

War certainly qualifies as a "weapon of mass destruction," and our pre-emptive/preventative policy of violent aggression against a sovereign nation has only dumped more fuel on the spreading ideological plague of vicious, Islamic fundamentalism not only directed against non-Muslims and most of the civilized world, but also against other Muslims who have not been caught up in their madness. Granted, there are legitimate grievances against a US foreign policy that has run amuck for decades, but terrorism from either side is never a legitimate response or a solution. War only solidifies and further ignites the passions of those individuals caught in this lethal swamp of group-inspired hatred directed towards the U.S.

Bush's divisive, gun-slinger, "You're either with us or against us," absolutism, is eerily similar to Islamic fanatics, who are intent upon terrorizing and destroying the "infidels" -- that's you and me -- and anyone else who does not kowtow to their ideological agenda. They believe, in the words of one prominent Iranian ayatollah, that "Moslems have no alternative . . . to an armed holy war against profane governments. . . . . It will . . . be the duty of every able-bodied adult male to volunteer for this war of conquest, the final aim of which is to put Koranic law in power from one end of the earth to the other." To fundamentalist Islam the US is the "great Satan," while George W. Bush, indoctrinated by his own missionary, self righteous, group-think, world view, said, "We are in a conflict between good and evil, and America will call evil by its name." And, according to the "Bush Doctrine," the United States is "called to bring God's gift of liberty to every human being in the world" -- good news for Christians, bad news for Moslems and other beliefs -- all examples of group-speak -- dangerous, polarizing, and dehumanizing.

How have we as a nation been led down this slippery slope into the terrible maw of our own brand of barbaric, black and white dogmatism that is perverting a nation once dedicated to peace and freedom into a war-mongering "many-headed beast" intent on ever-increasing world dominance? How much longer must we watch the transparent spectacle of archaic empire-building disguised as "freedom and democracy for all" that is in reality designed to protect and expand powerful special interest groups? We are playing God when we try to impose our political and economic values throughout the world. It is the neoconservative mask covering the arrogant, brutal face of religious fanaticism -- recreating the world in "our" image.

The Bush regime's behavior epitomizes many dangerous characteristics of a full-blown cult: a dysfunctional group ideology obliterates the individual human conscience, whether Christian, Jew or Muslim; lethal beliefs creating fanaticism and mass hysteria then become mechanisms for rationalizing the greatest evil of all -- war. Once infected, this dehumanizing, mental virus turns normally "good" people into conscienceless killing machines. This is NOT religion! This is insanity!

A political party, a group, sect or religion gone bad requires dedicated, willing members who surrender independent critical thinking and suppress their innate sense of right and wrong for an idealistic sounding mission. Conscience, integrity and a sense of self-responsibility are the first casualties in any destructive ideology. Because a group-directed life is much less of a strain than individual critical thinking and self-responsibility, there is an ever-present, overwhelming temptation to allow the group mind to displace the individual conscience. The process goes something like this:

o Education: People, often beginning with children, are taught to hate those who are different and they are taught to interpret scriptures, like the Bible or the Koran, literally instead of symbolically: "holy war," Jihad, is then externalized, waged on perceived outside enemies in contrast to an inner holy war with one's lesser nature.

o Creating enemies: The group, whether political or religious, must create enemies to survive: other nation states, other religions, other races. Unspeakable evil is rationalized for the "greater good," for the sake of the group's mission and agenda. It's "unfortunate," just "collateral damage," if thousands of innocent civilians are murdered in the process.

o Labeling: Destructive ideologies categorize others by group characteristics such as color, religion, ethnicity, nationality or economic status instead of seeing the individual human being.

o Elitism: Leaders' ideas and agenda are sacred, inspired or beyond reproach: This produces a presumed superiority over others with different views, encouraging elitism, separation, hatred, and prejudice.

o Black and white thinking: Destructive organizations promote a fundamental separation of pure and impure, good and evil: purity equates to being in the group or at least like-minded; impurity and evil equate to those outside the group, who must be saved, defeated or destroyed. God is always on their side.

o Exclusiveness: Belief that their system -- whether political, economic, or religious--is the solution for the world's problems. They have the truth and nonbelievers do not. Their God is the only true God; i.e. our political/economic system is the only way.

o Censorship: Leadership attempts to control (or manipulate) information and communication into and out of the group as well as individuals' inner thought processes. Doubts, criticisms and different ideas are labeled as "unpatriotic," or taken as attacks, disloyalty, lack of faith, or we are giving "aid and comfort to the enemy."

What then do we do about terrorism and terrorists? First we must refuse to lower ourselves to their level--to become the "evil" that we most despise in others. And we must find creative alternatives to war, working with our allies and the world community to solve legitimate international crises. We, with international cooperation among non-violent, peace-loving peoples, must work together to find and arrest each and every individual who commits a terrorist act or any other crime against humanity. There can be no sanctuary on the planet for such criminals. Terrorism has nothing to do with geographical boundaries. Its territory is the human mind.

Teaching children to hate those who have different beliefs is a crime against our common humanity. Those who teach hatred, racism, and prejudice in schools ought to be treated as criminals and sociopaths. Any institution, any ideology, organization or school (an example being the Islamic Madrassas that have been corrupted by radical cultists) that promotes such teachings must no longer be tolerated by the world community and must be outlawed.

It may well be that we are condemned to repeat past horrors--until we come to grips with the crucial necessity to educate ourselves and most urgently, children everywhere, about the often fatal effects of destructive groups and destructive ideologies. We ought to be defenders of freedom and democracy, a benevolent influence in the world through our example, not demagogues wearing the dark shrouds of arrogance, power, religious absolutism and empire-building.

Perhaps the real weapon of mass destruction we need to be concerned about is the virulent, fundamentalist group think that has infected both the Christian and Moslem religions. Shakespeare, in The Tempest, had it right when he wrote, "No prisons are more confining than the ones of which we are unaware."

This event confirms once again that terrorism is not only a response impulsive and angry by a group of crazy bent on destroying Western democracies. This abortive plot showed traces of a group of clandestine, meticulous and long term PATIENTLY planned, calculated and waited the hour strike.

We have inadvertently allowed terrorism to flourish because we have been able to address and treat the three deep roots of terrorism. Let me first identify these three "passes" of terrorism before provide solutions to deal with them. They are:

1. A coward, SELF-PRESERVING and OPPORTUNIST leadership CORE

2. A philosophy of POPULISMTriangular, martyrdom and fear

3. An army of hatred of young soldiers of infantry as heroic Guinea Pigs

The true leaders and the inspiration behind terrorism, are a very rational and intelligent (although negatively) being. The moment we begin to see them as well, we are better equipped to deal with this scourge. In his cowardly attempt of self-protection, refused to "lead by example" of 'martyrdom' that they preached to innocently gullible fans because who professed, treason deceive and mislead the young boys innocent with the promise of to the ' Jannah "Heaven" to commit murder and suicide, and mass in the name of God.

These young boys innocent and lush were recruited from false, illusory and hate philosophy, trained and used as fodder Cannon - the "heroic" guinea pigs of terror, expendable pawns on the Board of chess of global terrorism, are currently oriented master by Osama laden Bn to Al - Queada. Another important structure in the arsenal of terror is what I call the Triangular philosophy. This is taught in classes of terror and training camps to indoctrinate the victims gullible youth. Having been able to win the battle of reason and logic, that seek to exploit opportunistically public desire for peace and development, through the use of violent means to scare people to lobby Western Governments to "leave alone of Islam" and withdraw its forces from Iraq, Afghanistan and Israel of Palestine withdrawal and the southern Lebanon. To promote the popular mood and indignation, placing the blame for their criminal acts on the threshold of Western Governments.

The method of exhibition and detention of these conspirators of terror, for the first time show that we are no longer dealing with them as a maddening crowd that should be addressed with a package of emergency and panic. Nos atrevemos a levantar una polémica con nuestros hermanos de jóvenes 'Islámico', que, en su inocencia son que se recaudó en sus tumbas intempestivas en su primer por un liderazgo trastornado. El Islam como una forma de vida es una religión de la paz del mundo! ¿De donde viene este horror de terror que Al Queada busca engraft en él? ¿Cuyo embajador art thou? ¿Que y cuya causa extiende tú fightest? ¿Tú cuyo mandato se seeketh? ¿Serán las almas de los muertos y mutilados perdonar a los malos actores de este drama extraño, que terminación prematuramente su destino en el altar de un liderazgo cobarde y horrible? ¿Cómo iba a ganar su caso en la Corte de los deudos o incluso de sus desventuradas, agonizante y igualmente desconsoladas familias estos jóvenes misled?

En lugar de la meta deformada de hostigamiento contra Bush y Blair, este ejército sectaria sólo ha logrado avergonzando a los verdaderos embajadores de la fe islámica en el mundo árabe y por desgracia whiplashed las comunidades musulmanes amante de la paz en todo el mundo.

Do You Recognize The Profile Of Terror?

Who can we believe? Is stated policy and objectives enough to separate fact from fiction? In today's threatening climate, filled with axe-grinding viewpoint, multiple sources pummel our senses with daily doses of divergent viewpoints: warning of dangers and threats from Radical Islam, Moderate Islam, and Peaceful Islam. Then, we receive alerts on not only imported terrorists and exported terrorists, but homegrown terrorists as well. So what is the truth about terrorist incentives and dangers?

Middle Eastern cauldrons roil a centuries-old brew filled with ethnic bigotry and radical ideologies, black with mythical residue, and overflowing with religious rancor. Seething kettles flood the world with unsavory radicalisms and inflame mankind's wounded ego to the exclusion of reason. Howbeit, the brew brings civilization dangerously close to global conflict. Inevitably, acquiring detritus from more anciently eroded god mountains, the pot overflows and sweeps ever onward to inundate all in acrimonious diversity. Three monotheisms overflow from the constantly heated Middle Eastern kettles. From these wind-swept clines and tortured landscapes; each monotheism branch strictly opposes the other two in developed conscience and irrational dedication.

Evolved from the ancient rocks, flora, and harsh desert sands, a primitive mindset separates peoples into opposing camps, each trusting in an invented and unresponsive god. Naivete continues despite god indifference, and many perceive god omnipotence to rule over element, ailment, and unrelenting mortality; thus, ignorance and primitiveness prevails in modern settings. Pertinent to immediate concerns, Judaism-Christian-Islam disciplines radiate outside the original God-covenant time frame; each monotheism branch hoards its own special God sanctions, outside the ancient Hebrew milieu, and each denies benefit to the other two like-minded and egocentric inventions.

As we study terrorist legions, ripened on status quo legal-historicisms, philosophy must investigate its cruel origins and developed incentive; which origins are basis for today's widespread violence. Apropos to Judeo-Christian opposition and following the Israeli Messiah, Islam was born on a surrogate mother's knees -- six hundred years late and drawing nourishment from metaphysical gardens already depleted and abandoned. Yet, Mohammed redirected the concept and cultivated a new sprout in the sparse oasis grove at Mecca. Unremarkable in genesis, Islam rapidly grew under the bandit chief's sword. But Mohammed's cleverness was not unprecedented; already, two usurpations had grown to dominance in the centuries earlier; which arrogations followed the seed line's drive to complete Ten Ages fulfillment.

Not to be outdone, Mohammed used every device to gain power over an ignorant and superstitious people, including the use of torture, murder, dismemberment, rape, robbery, pedophilia, lying, treachery, slavery, and genocide. If any disagree with this characterization, then please consult the Sunnah (Mohammed examples) evidenced and recorded by Ibn Ishaq, Bukhari, Tabari, and Muslim in the Hadith assemblies.

In this present emergency, Qur'an ignorance is inexcusable--as is any opinion or criticism resulting from unenlightened prejudice. In monotheism's volatile ambiance, legal-historical evidence should be read with care, realizing its immutability; moreover, critique should direct utmost attention to the validity of witness and principal sensitivity.

Only slightly removed from Stone Age anaclisis, still throwing rocks and sticks, Middle Eastern zealots develop, market, and enforce three deceptive, but clever theocratic tools to further the same political aspirations as those who first promoted these primitive attractions. Thus, hardly improved from anciently austere conditions, mankind still labors under dark and troubling existentialisms.

Can we save ourselves from this ancient curse? It is not likely, but we can try! Have you studied the cruelty and inhumanity abundantly sanctioned in Bible, Qur'an, Torah, and Hadith? Can each discuss the contents with intellectual panoply? If we cannot, then we become part of the problem! The First Monotheism embraced Temple worship, sacrifice and oblation, and flourished in the populated world's tiniest corner. With unchanged ordinances, a 'chosen people,' by definition, march on still, but tardy to a Hebrew God theocracy already terminated; further, modern Judaism was extrapolated from the 'end of all things.' Next, a Second Monotheism was born into present Christian expedience. Centuries passed, and a Third Monotheism emanated from a site later to become Mecca, where previously, Hagar and Ishmael slacked their thirst at an isolated oasis spring.

More centuries pass, and much blood soaked the world's furthest corners. Chattel and human cargo were heartlessly used as exchange, as the price of evangelistic fervor. Jewish writings furnished the template for modern Christian and encroaching Islam. They are at war! And only in Jihad, fighting or dying for Allah, does Islam exonerate those guilty of peaceful conduct. 'Peaceful' Muslims are denied Paradise rewards in the Hadith, for peaceful Muslims pervert the Mohammed example: "... Jihad is an obligatory duty in Islam on every Muslim." Qur'an 2.190.

We cannot hope to cover the entire scope of madness and man's blind devotion to unreason and illogic. Here, we only scratch the surface; this problem is much greater than can be addressed in this small article. Readers are urged to become more visible and educated on resolution of the present danger and threat to civilization. Further writings are available on this very important subject and to the authenticity and validity of the modern religion conflict. Resolution for secrets and dangers never before seriously contemplated can be realized through concentrated study of the instruments inciting the masses to violence.

We must learn to set aside political correctness and patently address the growing profile of terror.
