The Muslim Brotherhood of Egypt - lessons in transformation, scalability & Al - Qaida reinvention

First it was the British, the Suez Canal and Egyptian nationalism. Then it was a creation of Palestinian homeland carved Israel. This was followed by the humiliating Treaty of peace between Egypt and Israel. Subsequently, the fight against the Soviet occupation against Afghanistan. The Muslim Brotherhood fought for noble item one after another.

It was when the world reached an agreement with the transforming power of the Islamic brotherhood that began in Egypt as a battle for national pride of 9/11. With this single strike, Al Qaeda, a branch of the Egyptian brotherhood, had transformed the way in which the world expected himself. Although not lost its fundamental characteristic of a struggle for self-esteem and avenge evil done against innocent Muslims, the brotherhood transformed from a small political movement to an organization very centered, aligned and scalable.

These and many other transformation programmes undertaken by different sects religious and movements have attractive lessons for the implementation of strategy and organizational transformation.

The one mind approach managed by the Muslim Brotherhood through the concept of Jihad against a formidable opponent was a strong unifying theme for a programme of transformation. The theme was reinvented and adapted to align itself with the socio-political realities of the time, but never lost its essence. It could be communicated easily on the banks of the Nile, the deserts of Arabia, Peshawar markets or the Valley of Kashmir.

Any transformation programme needs to be driven by strong item/s that can create its own identity. How to market change realities, the needs of the transformation programme to reinvent itself and modify topics and make them relevant to the changing realities of different eras and different markets.

There are many lessons of transformation can extract from the spread of the Muslim Brotherhood as the empowerment of branches and academies of training (indoctrination) to the fraternity. However the possibility to remain relevant and continually seek and identify an adversary to jihad is the most important achievement of the programme's strategic transformation.

It torments me each time a local train or have my baby a crowded supermarket. I never thought that the British interest to dominate the Suez Canal will have a transformative impact in my life.

Islamic gifts of prayer rugs

A Muslim can not deny the importance of praying or 'Salat' in his life; does a significant feature of every Muslim home prayer rugs. They make ideal gifts for various occasions; they are not only useful but also have a spiritual involvement. If you want advice someone is regular in their prayers, then choose from a variety of prayer rugs and introduces him with one will tell all. This is an ideal gift for children as soon as they turn seven. His personal mat will be make them proud of their possession and motivate them to legitimately use.

When family or friends are moved to a new home, prayer rugs may be the most appropriate gifts. Praying in them it will ensure that the family will live in peace and tranquility with the grace of Allah. For those times you can select carpet as carpets and prayer are woven in colors dark and rich; they might be a little expensive but the generosity of the demands of time on his side.

Muslim pilgrims also returning from Hajj or Umrah distribute carpets and prayer along with other memories of the Holy land. You can buy them from the Holy cities of Mecca or Medina, but it is a costly process, and then air cargo weight limitations restrict them bring the gift for each. Is a viable solution buying prayer rugs as many need it in his own hometown; You must only select those of superior quality and manufactured in countries that provide the rest of the world.

If some friends or relatives, especially women seeking to meditate in isolation, i.e. sit on 'Aitakaf' during the month of Ramadan, again prayer rugs prove a beneficial and useful gift. Muslim women have to meditate at home only, you can choose an isolated corner or a room in the House, spread their mats and connect with Alá. Key features of an Islamic marriage

For any young Muslim women find the perfect partner is not an easy task because there are many stipulations involved when looking for a life partner. Islam dictates that women can only marry Muslims as marrying Muslims not results in religious and cultural dissidence.

Given that children often follow the religion of the father, it is extremely important that women marry someone who has entered the circle of Islam. For any young Muslim woman, there are many barriers that she cannot cross if it is governed by the cultural and religious norms. The most important barrier is the ban on men and women meeting freely and interact with others unless they are interrelated. For many, this means that you can marry only with their cousins that are age appropriate. In some cases, parents organize a Muslim for daughters from within the circle of close family friends party. While marriages work in some cases, is a huge risk that unmarried Muslim women are reluctant to take.

Islamic marriages are sacred as the nikkah ceremony is considered a pact signed with Alá as a witness. Something like this cannot be taken lightly and women and Muslim men say that they are making the right decision before entering the nikkah. Islam allows the right to obtain divorce, but is an action that is highly aversion by Allah so many Muslim women try to make their marriages work even if they have abusive husbands. However if you encounter such a scenario, Alá has given women the right to seek a khula (divorce initiated by women) so that she can live in peace. Muslim pairing is a complex process that involves a lot of deliberation and reflection by the bride and groom before the match.

Another example of effective websites online Muslim marriage for Muslim single men and single women Muslim is Naseeb. Only Muslims can visit Naseeb to find the right match.

Why has changed my opinion - should build is the Islamic Center of the community?

When the controversy first arose over the "Ground Zero" mosque, had the basic view that should have the legal right to be built, and that the groups protesting by him were worsening the situation; However, I thought that it would be probably better for them to move to a different location. However, as the situation as it progressed, my opinion on the subject has changed for a number of different reasons: the importance not to let that misinformation and mistruths influence decisions, position and ideas of the magnet wants to built the community downtown, not giving to hatred and rage, and eventually which would mean for Islamic and Christian relations around the world.

First of all, we have seen how this whole situation has been performed with a lot of half truths or lies. The full name "Ground zero mosque" is misleading because it really is more than one Community Center and is not visible even from scratch. There has also been a lot of lies about how this is going to be used by radical Islam and how the people building the Center supports terrorism, which is simply false. We have seen how the media lies can cause harmful decisions (the most recent situation with Sharron Sherrod and Fox News is a good example), and this sets a dangerous precedent. If we allow that you outlets like Fox News to make significant social changes pushing lies and truths, we will be encouraging them to do more of the same.

Secondly, the Imam who wants to build the Community Center has been a supporter of the peace franco and an opponent of terrorism and extremism. It is part of the Sufi sect of Islam, which is the branch of Islam more meditative. In fact, his sect (which traditionally has always been the most peaceful) it has actually been attacked, and people were killed by members of radical Islam. It is really building downtown to have a place for people to go, especially young people, in New York. If the building was being built by a radical fundamentalist would be much more skeptical, but when is it is being built by a Sufi who is trying to lead the followers of their religion away from extremism is a different story.

Another important reason I changed my opinion on this issue is because the danger to fear, anger and hatred even. If this Community Center is not allowed to be built, people will think if they can be angry and hateful enough can stop any other legal (political or religious) project who are opposed to. We cannot leave our democracy and freedoms refused because there are enough uniformed and angry people shouting. This is not a democracy; It is anarchy. Sets a horrible precedent that could have long-term effects.

Finally, this mosque move due to misinformation and the anger would be terrible for Christian and Islamic relations in the world. He has already reported that Al - Qaida is using this event in their recruitment. It would be a signal to the rest of the world that there are still some kind of "Holy war" between Islam and Christianity. Even though there are serious differences and objectives among religions, this type of conflict does no good for anyone and gives people the impression of hatred, intolerance and injustice.

On the other hand, this could be an opportunity for forgiveness and mutual understanding between Islamic and Christian groups in the nation and the world. People that are building the Community Center had nothing to do with 9/11, and should have every right and support to build its own Center of religion. As a Christian who firmly believes in the freedom of religion and expression, which is based on the United States, there can be no alternative to supporting the rights of these people.

Why not Islamic people do in the Holocaust?

There is a way to clarify our understanding of the conflict in the Middle East and the polarization of Islamic people with Israel. It requires that we take a longer view of the events that have generated the conflict and the interests that fuel it today. This is not a futile exercise. It leads to the realization that the conflict can be resolved and that the resolution shall bring great benefit to all the world.

Let us then, begin at the beginning.

Germany was defeated in the First World War. Its cities were ravaged. Its lands were poisoned. Its people were sick, exhausted and impoverished.

The victors, the Allies---France, England, and Russia--looted the manufacturing and industrial resources, tore up the railroad lines and stripped the countryside of agricultural products. The German mark was near worthless in trade. The government was unstable and between 1918 and 1932, there were only ineffective governments which failed to restore social or political order to rebuild the country

The Great Depression caused world wide economic failures. Unemployment in the US and developed nations ran 25% or more.

In Germany, it was far worse. By 1932, Germany's unemployment rate was 70%. Social chaos and mass rioting was the result of starvation, soaring crime, and failure of the basic infrastructure for food, water, sewage and medical care. Disease was rampant as people were dying in the streets and left to rot.

In 1932, it was estimated that within five years, forty percent of the population would be dead.

Into this nightmare, an uneducated worker drew up a plan: if 40% would die, let the German people survive. Create a public plan in which those who were not historically part of the German people ("true Germans") or who were criminals and parasites stealing from the German people, or those who were mentally deranged or physically without hope of health or constructive participation in the society be eliminated in a systematic and sanitary way. Let those who were foreign born be required to return to their original countries. Let those who defined themselves as "non-citizens", leave or be eliminated from the German population. Let those who dissent from doing what needs to be done be considered obstructionists and enemies of the German people. And let the property of all of those enemies, criminals and outcasts be returned to the German people to restore health, peace and prosperity to them.

How reasonable this seems. How socially conscious. And yet, what devastation resulted.

The simple laborer was Adolf Hitler and his plan is contained in "Mein Kampf". In the social and political chaos, Hitler emerged as a leader who had articulated what came to be seen as a hard but necessary plan for the survival of Germany and her people. Germany instituted what has been named "the Holocaust". The gypsies were killed, The homosexuals were killed. The mentally ill, the aged and the infirm were killed. The priests and nuns, the ministers and students who objected or begged for mercy for others, were killed as obstructionists and therefore, enemies. The teachers and intellectuals who spoke out or wrote criticisms of these policies, were judged to be enemies of the state and they too were marked for elimination. Some 10 million men, women and children were slaughtered. Most were Catholics and Protestants. Some were atheists. It is estimated that an additional 6 million Jews were killed in the Holocaust and it may help us to understand the present if we look at the factors that made the Jews particular targets .

In the 150 years prior to the rise of Nazism , pogroms in Russia and other Eastern European countries had resulted in wave after wave of Jewish immigration. Germany's Jewish ghettoes held many non-German immigrants. The same was true for Poland and Austria. Many had fled the pogroms of Russia.

The cause of the pogroms was both economic and religious. For more than 1500 years, until 1947 Catholics and Protestants were not permitted to lend money or charge interest on loans and mortgages. This was considered a "mortal sin" by the Church. It was called "usury" and the punishment was eternal damnation.

The Jews became the bankers, mortgage brokers, pawn shop owners and financiers. They became so economically powerful from this, that many countries had laws prohibiting Jews from owning property, even when a mortgage was defaulted. They could sell the mortgage to someone else, but they themselves could not own the land or the factories.

In these times, people would pawn anything: not just jewelry, but furniture, clothing, even their shoes.

When times became very hard, those who had pawned their personal effects would go to church both for some warmth in winter, and to pray. Too often priests and ministers would inflame the congregations with assertions about how the Jews had killed Jesus ( incorrect; the Romans had crucified Jesus) or that the Jews were practicing satanic rites to obtain their wealth. In those days, it was believed that you prospered because God has specially blessed you or because you had sold your soul to the Devil and were required to engage in human sacrifice of virgins and infants.

Half mad from starvation, deprivation and resentment , whole towns would invade the Jewish ghetto , beating and sometimes killing the Jewish inhabitants and taking back from them all the pawned personal possessions, food stores and whatever could be used. The Jews that survived rarely rebuilt and lived again with their Christian neighbors. Most would take the pogrom as a sign that they should move on and find more tolerant communities to establish their shops, banks and services in.

The Jews focused their services on "mobile" assets: education, professional skill such as medicine and dental services, architectural design, accounting, writing, research, teaching;. They engaged in businesses with high valued and easily transported products: jewels and jewelry, art, and wherever craftsmanship was rewarded. Moving and starting over was more the rule than the exception.

The ghetto life served the Jewish community. They banded together for spiritual cohesion and safety. They shared common language (Yiddish, a blend of Germany and Hebrew) different from the European nations that they settled in, Their religious practices and laws resulted in distinctive food, clothing, hair styles and cultural values that kept them alert and "mobile" in their assets. They tended to be more and better educated than the people around them and while the ghettoes walled them in, it also kept out the cultures that could contaminate their spiritual and material lives. And if things became too difficult with the surrounding cultures, they could always move on.

While intermarriage with non-Jews was frowned upon, some Jews intermarried. They more often than not became non-practicing Jews and raised their children as Christians or atheists. They lived outside the ghettos and distanced themselves from the Orthodox community.

It is important to realize that these European Jews-the Ashkenazi--were very different from the Sephardic Jews of Spain, Portugal, North Africa and the Middle East.

Ashkenazi Jews are the Jews of France, Germany and Eastern Europe and their descendants. The term "Ashkenazi" is derived from the Hebrew word for Germany. These Jews lived in fear and tension with the people around them. They had neither security nor safety for any extended time since pogroms would occur disrupting their lives or they would find themselves flooded with the refugees from other cities and nations.

For the Ashkenazi Jews, the future was unsettled. At any time, they would have to move on to find a new community, a new town or a new country in order to survive.

Until the Great Depression. Now, there was no place to move to in Europe. The rise of Nazism and the Holocaust identified the Jews as "not true Germans" ---the isolation in the ghettoes contained most of the Jewish population and the presence of non-German Jews from other countries marked the ghettoes for large scale elimination of unwanted populations. The concentration of professionals and intellectuals in the Jewish community lead to strong resistance and objections to "the Plan" and targeted them as being, therefore "enemies of the German people".

Remember, that part of "the Plan" was to redistribute the assets of those caught in the Holocaust to the German people. Neighbors, even co-workers, would report Jews, dissidents, critics, and others in order to be able to seize their property when they were arrested. Clothing, furniture, residences, cars, jewelry, personal items were now being used and worn by the "true" Germans .

With high unemployment rates and social and economic instability, few countries could absorb those fleeing from the Nazi machine. When Jews attempted to leave for France, they were turned back. Switzerland turned them back. England denied the vast majority. Few European nations allowed significant numbers of Jews to immigrate. The United States turned them back. Some escaped to South America and Africa. Those who had emigrated before the world economic collapse were nearly helpless to bring their families out of Europe once the Second World War began.

The Nazis were very practical in that they would first kill those who were dissidents or who were too old to "work" or were considered parasites on the general population. It was a mixed group. As the Holocaust progressed, and the re-distribution of assets became a way to buy the support and silence of the general population, the focus on the Jews intensified.

They were sent to labor camps where they worked for the State until they grew weak and sick. If they could not "contribute" more than the cost of their food or posed a health danger to the workforce, they were eliminated. Or if too many were being sent to the camps and the personnel could not manage them, they sent healthy men, women and children to the gas chambers to "eliminate" the problem.

The killing and disposal of the victims of the Holocaust was done in a manner that was considered "sanitary" and "skilled" to maintain the idea of superior psychological and hygienic "health" and maintain the image of "benefit" to the life of Germans . The rural location of gas chambers, the mass graves, the recycling of clothing to distant cities or use as raw materials in industry, all isolated the true scope and brutality of the Holocaust from the eyes and full awareness of the German people. Only the "accounting" legers discovered after the War reveal the devastation that took place and document the claims that 6 million Jews died in the Holocaust, 10 million non-Jews, 1900 priests, etc.

At the War's end, when the concentration camps were "liberated", the majority of the prisoners were unable and usually, unwilling to return to their cities and towns. Between the grief and memories of those they had loved, and the horror of seeing the personal effects of family and friends in the hands and on the backs of the Germans, the prospect of return was a nightmare.

They wanted, and they needed, to move on.

Again, they were turned back by the other European nations, Russia, and the United States. Limited numbers immigrated to South American nations and a few African nations. Most were too mentally and emotionally scarred and wanted only to go to a place where they would always be accepted as Jews.

From this, the ranks of the Zionists-those Jews who worked for a Jewish "homeland"-swelled.

The Betrayal of the Arabs

To understand the opposition of the Arab nations to the creation of Israel, some background is needed.

Moslems and Jews had lived side by side with relatively little rancor for more than 1,000 years in Arab states. These, however, were Sephardic Jews (who had fled the Inquisition in Spain and Portugal in the 1400s) and the Mizrachim (Jews who had lived side by side with Arabs from ancient times). Today, the indigenous Jews of the Middle East are generally referred to as Sephardic Jews.

They owned land and businesses, they traded, intermarried and argued with their Arab neighbors. They were neither segregated nor oppressed by the Islamic culture. Sephardic Jewish thought and culture was strongly influenced by Arabic and Greek philosophy and science. There was mutual respect between Arabs and Middle Eastern Jews.

Control of Palestine and the Holy Land had been in the hands of Moslems for over 2000 years with only brief interruptions during the Crusades when foreign factions (French and English Catholics primarily) held military control.

The Islamic View, Culture and Laws

The Islamic peoples were primarily desert dwellers with a culture and values formed by life in the desert. In this culture, formalized as Islamic law, theft was punishable by the loss of the right hand. This was the hand that took food from the community shared food vessels. The left hand was used to clean oneself after urination and defecation. It was never used to feed oneself or to draw food from the community plates.

A thief is, therefore condemned to complete isolation from the community and to a slow and painful death by starvation.

This extreme punishment was because, in the desert, one's life depended upon honor among the travelers. A cache of food or supplies left on a travel route could mean life or death to those relying on the supplies. The code of honor was stronger even than blood ties. It required that those moving through life together support and help each other and live in honor with each other. Even today, if someone leaves personal possessions in the desert, they will be there when he returns.

The Arab peoples were a tribal society. With rare exception, information was transmitted orally. The verification of information was based on the history and character of the teller. Was this person and his family known to the listeners? Had he himself witnessed the events he described or had he heard them from another who was reputable, known to the listeners, respected and confirmed as a teller of truth? Or was this a person known to exaggerate? Could you believe the accuracy of the statements? Who else could one call upon to witness the truth of what was told?

During the Second World War, the Arab States fought beside the Allies against the German and Italian Axis. As allies, the British, French , Americans and Russians were extended the full support of the Arabs including the sacrifice of their lives to help and defend them.

During the era between the First and Second World Wars, both European and American companies had been dealing with the isolated Arab emirates and kingdoms over oil. By the end of the Second World War, the isolated Arab tribes were becoming cohesive into nation states. Under the agendas of nationalism, ownership and control of the Suez Canal, the oil fields and refineries, and other resources were moving into Arab hands and away from foreign control.

Britain had developed a policy of "divide and conquer" with colonies that sought economic and political independence. The division of Pakistan into two sections with India in between is a clear example. The division was rationalized as based on religious differences. The economic and political strife that continues to this day perpetuates dependency on Britain and other foreign interests.

Imposing the creation of Israel and occupation of Arab lands by the European Jews was an extraordinary act of betrayal of Islamic law and culture. It was meant to disrupt and distract the Arab nations from their own political and economic focus.

This policy was imposed on the Middle East with the Balfour Declaration. This created the state of Israel by violating the Alliance with the Arab states and profoundly violating both their cultural values and their laws. Britain, backed by the United States and the French, stole the land from the Palestinians, stole the Islamic Holy Shrines of Jerusalem from the Islamic people, and inserted Europeans as settlers upon lands that had belonged to the Arabs for millennia.

As Europeans, the refugees were unlike the Sephardic Jews who had lived in peace with the Islamic peoples. The Ashkenasi Jews carried the scars of war. They were angry. Their hearts were filled with hatred and unforgiveness. They swore "Never again" would they be driven from their homes or fail to fight and revenge attacks on them.

They considered the creation of the State of Israel their "right" as a kind of "payment" for what they had suffered and lost in Europe. They considered it the fulfillment of the prophecy of the Return to Jerusalem and the displacement of "a few Arabs" as a small and justifiable price the world should pay.

The continuing anger, resentment and resistance of the Islamic world to the creation and existence of the State of Israel has been an enormous surprise to the Western nations. To the Islamic culture, the creation of Israel and the on-going polarization with the Arab world has resulted from the perception of a series of lies, thefts, betrayals and dismissal of the rights of Islamic people to their own sovereignty.

Remembering that the Islamic people had lived side by side with the Miszracham for thousands of years and the Sephardic Jews for five hundred years, there was no hatred for the Jews in the Islamic culture. In fact, both Christians and Jews had been considered part of the Islamic world-view because of the shared ancestry to Abraham. Like the Jews, Islam considered Jesus a prophet and a holy man. Only those who violated the moral laws that Moslems, Jews and Christians shared were judged to be "infidels"-those who were "unfaithful" to God's laws.

For the Arabs, there was no justification for the creation of Israel nor any moral mandate to allow the occupation by the European Jews.

To begin with, no Islamic person or persons of merit can vouch for the events of the Holocaust, especially for the claim of 6 million Jews being slaughtered. Besides having no Islamic witnesses, the Middle Easterners had lived and worked with Sephardic Jews for thousands of years. They had, to the Arabs, the reputation for exaggeration. If a piece of cloth was good, the Jewish merchant would claim that it was the best, had been created for princes and was worth far more than what the merchant was asking. The same "bargaining" rhetoric was used by the Arab merchants themselves, so the claims of the European Jews were neither believed nor accepted as even possible.

The confiscating of Arab lands creating the State of Israel and the successive military expansion of Israel to claim more land, violated the alliance that the Arab states had made with the Allies. Here were their "friends", enforcing stealing from them! Here, using the European Jews as the knife, was a wound called the State of Israel which would not heal until the knife was removed. This is the rhetoric used even today.

The resistance of the Palestinians and their Arab neighbors to the confiscation of land and further expansion triggered the rage of Ashkenazi Jews throughout the world. They depicted the Arabs as another form of Nazis. The Jews outside of Israel mobilized economic and political support for the right of Israel to exist and the arming of Israel with weapons to not only defend its borders but with the ability to attack and devastate other nations. Jews from Western nations would visit Israel to "fight" with the Arabs and disparage the Palestinian and Arab fighters who had come from the desert cultures that did not fight to the death, but fought only to drive off bandits and rogues. The absence of weapons and deadly force by the Palestinians and their neighbors in the early years led to Israeli arrogance and contempt for the Arabs.

The Islamic people viewed the European refugees quite differently. They considered that the European Jews had been robbed twice. They recognized that the Nazis had stolen the property and possessions of the Jews. At the end of the Second World War, the Jews should have gone back and reclaimed their possessions as well as taken from the spoils of war in reparation. Instead, the European Jews let the Allies steal all of this from them, again, and used them as a weapon against the Arab world in the creation of Israel. Their "bad bargain" did not entitle them to take Arab lands.

As the demand for oil increased, the resources and political dynamics of the Middle East became a major dimension of the Cold War. Increased oil revenues meant wealth to the Arab nations and the Cold War led to the marketing of military weapons to both Israel and the Arab States. As each side increased military capacity, the other players were forced to match or excel in arms and military knowhow. The tensions and competitions of the Cold War were re-enacted in the nations of the Middle East.

Interestingly, as the Arab-Israeli tensions rose, the Western States more aggressively pursued the building and installation of military bases and their own weapons inside the Middle Eastern States. The borders with the Soviet Union and the People's Republic of China became a string of bunkers for communist and Western silos. The questionable security and political instability of these areas was largely ignored until weapons and missals went missing. The accusation of Western nations that Arab states had "weapons of mass destruction" was factual. The weapons had been made in the West and been delivered as part of "mutual aid". The justification was that Israel had these weapons. With the same manufacturers.

In the modern world, the Arab-Israeli conflict continues to be perpetuated by Western interests. Over nearly three generations , the conflict has deepened the wounds. Today, the conflict has become global as the placement of Israeli war chests in New York and London have become targets for Arab retaliation for loss of lands and life. Each target, from the Twin Towers to the London Metro represent supply lines for Israeli interests and caches of Israeli gold and silver bullion. Each bombing of sites in other countries represent meeting places and alliances for the Arab world or disruption of Israeli supply lines and alliances.

Most American Jews are descendents of the European Ashkenazi Jews. While early settlements of Jews were from the Sephardic communities, those who came from the mid 1800s on were primarily Ashkenazi Jews.

In the population of Israel, the majority of Jews are Sephardic Jews who have lived in the Middle East since ancient times. Some are Ethiopian Jews who sought refuge from the extreme Ethiopian famines in the late 1980s an earl 1990s. The rest are the Ashkenazi and their descendants.

In the world community, the Ashkenazi favor military, economic and political policies in support of Israel whether acts by the Israelis are right or wrong, justified or not. This causes sharp divisions in many nations who would choose to be uninvolved in the quagmire of the Arab-Israeli conflict.

Did the US Cause the Current Islamic Regime in Iran?

They are considered one of the "axis of evil". There has been growing talk of possible military operations in the country because of their attempts to build nuclear weapons. However, did the U.S. government cause their rise to power? Perhaps, we need to look back with a more critical eye towards our history.

In the early 1950's, the new democratically elected Iranian Prime Minister, Mohammad Mosaddegh, tried to nationalize the countries oil and take power away from British and U.S. interests in the nation. The U.S. and British governments responded through the the CIA to overthrow the newly elected minister. They wanted to continue to keep influence in the region, and more importantly they wanted to keep their economic interests flowing. They were successful and installed their own "ambassador" as leader, the Shah. The Shah was an authoritarian monarch who while supporting foreign interests did little to support the liberties and the needs of his people.

By 1979, the rule of Shah was no longer acceptable to the Iranian people. Two groups were threatening a revolution-the Socialist party and Ultra-Conservative Islamic movement which wanted to set up a theocracy. As we know today, the Ultra-Conservative Islamic movement was able to overthrow the Shah and set up their own oppressive government. Since 1979, Iran and the United States have been at odds (except for Reagan's shameful Iran-Contra Scandal where the U.S. helped support the Contras in Nicaragua with part of the money paid for by the selling of arms to an Iranian group). There was a similar trend throughout the Middle East. Many extremely conservative Islamic governments rose as different nation's autonomy and self rule were undermined by foreign forces (both Western and Soviet).

Some may question the reasons for talking about this now. The past is the past. However, there are some important lessons that we need to learn for today. The first is that misguided actions can have impacts that are not seen until years later. When Eisenhower supported the overthrow of the Iranian leader, he probably never thought that of the current scenario we have today. The same could be true of past U.S. support of figures such as Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden in the late 70's and 80's. Obviously, this backfired greatly. The same can be seen in Latin America where much of the fiercely anti-U.S. leftist movement can find its roots back in the U.S.'s unjust actions in the region.

More importantly, perhaps this can help us realize about our current actions today. What we do for our own short-term benefit at the expense of other people and nations will have effects that could haunt us 100 years later. We have to get past thinking of the short term (how can we get Saddam Hussein out of power, how can the drug war be expanded in South and Central America) and realize what the long terms and destabilizing factors that can occur as a result of our foreign policy.

On a personal level, this is also vital. Do we only live in light of our current circumstances or do we think how are actions are going to affect our future and the future of those around us? It is easy to only think in the here and now and for our wants and needs. However, perhaps we could learn to be enlightened enough to live our lives with our children's future in mind, and not do the easy and greedy thing at the expense of doing what is right and just.

How About a Cultural Islamic Renaissance Which Includes Maximum Freedom for Women?

The other day, I was speaking with an acquaintance and they brought up a very good point, and that was; what if the Islamic World had a renaissance which exploded with culture, new freedoms, art, and the advances of science? Consider if you will that the Middle East has a net inflow of global monies for oil and resources. Consider that the Middle Decentralists make very good businessmen (and women), and more and more folks are becoming highly educated. My acquaintance asks if within the next 8-years if this is possible? Well, these are all great concepts and questions so let's talk, shall we?

In my view, I'd say it is totally achievable, especially in key areas, in fact, it's already starting. Consider the progress in Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Jordan, and Turkey. We could see the same in Lebanon, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Iran, Iraq, and even Yemen, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Sure, I can see it plain as day, it's doable, even on that accelerated time-table.

Let's face it the Middle East needs the United States for the inflow of money, and the US needs the oil, and therefore like it or not we are coupled, and those mutual needs will not be changing anytime soon. It's obviously best if everyone gets along, and at some point the cultural differences must be celebrated for what they are and the differences understood, not as to barrier to friendship, but as a glimpse as to how others live and the wonderful diversity amongst human populations.

My acquaintance remind me that the US would be better off to assist in any way that the Middle East would ask for our assistance to help with a renaissance within their culture, regionally, or throughout, as the "Middle East will remain vital to US National interests." Yes, I agree with my acquaintance and would add something to that statement, because I don't see it as only in the Middle East.

I'd like to say that; "Every Region of the World remains vital to the US, and every nation, region, and peoples of planet earth have human interests to all nations and peoples!" So, with that said; "Ye" and plus; "we will continue to need the resources, as that light-sweet crude is perfect for our fuel needs here at home, and abroad."

So, since they need our money for their economy, and we do need the oil, we ought to find a way to mend our differences and move forward with a peaceful and friendly future. Please consider all this.

Difference Between Islamic Banking and Conventional Banking

ISLAMIC bankers, caught between scholar and layman, devote much of their time to educating an often skeptical public about the authenticity of their products. Time well spent. The purgative effects of ridding the Islamic financial sector of pretenders (and there are many) at the hands of an educated consumer are obvious. Too often, however, this educational process is long on theory and short on practical relevance.

Perhaps the easiest way to determine whether Islamic banking is true to Qur'an, Sunna and customer is to see how it actually works in practice. The Islamic banking discussed here is the same one that earns consensual acceptance from the field's leading scholars of the traditional schools of jurisprudence. And while unscrupulous banks do exist, increasing market regulation and customer sophistication ensure that those Islamic banks that are truly Shari'ah-com-pliant lead the industry. By learning the basics about these banks, individuals will be better able to stand their ground when not-so-Islamic bankers push non-compliant instruments in the name of Islam.

At the outset, though, it is necessary to emphasize two important points. First, just because an Islamic product and a conventional product are identical does not render the Islamic pro- duct impermissible. As obvious as this seems, it is an argument detractors often use to discredit Islamic banking. The vast majority of Islamic financial instruments bear a strong resemblance to their conventional counterparts, particularly equity-based ones (see "In Your Interest", Islamica, winter 2003). What distinguishes them from conventional instruments is usually nothing more than a set of processes, which leads to the second point.

In Islam, the difference between whether something is forbidden, offensive, permissible, recommended or obligatory usually depends on a validating process. Two couples, one married the other unmarried, may look the same, but the agreement of a simple marriage contract makes the one Islamically valid and the other not. Two hamburgers, one using Islamically slaughtered meat the other not, may look the same, but a simple process makes one valid. So too, two financial products, one Islamic the other not, is differentiable by a set of steps: ostensibly cosmetic, Islamically defensible.

The following are among the most commonly asked questions by customers new to Islamic banking (ordered in increasing degree of complexity).

There was no Islamic bank during the Prophet's (Allah bless him and give him peace) time, so how can there be Islamic banking now? Sounds like a bid'a (innovation)

Microchips, potato chips and Islamic banks are examples of permissible things for which the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) gave us no specific guidance. Rather, he forbade us from engaging in blameworthy innovations (bid'a) that would contravene the Islamic Sacred Law (Shari'ah), rather than from new things that possess no intrinsic blameworthiness. The bid'a is in the blameworthiness, not in the newness.

Admittedly, some Islamic banks do carry out impermissible transactions, but that implicates the entire field of Islamic banking no more than the sins of a few Muslims incriminate the entire Islamic community.

As for the claim that Islamic banking is just part of the "system" and is therefore best avoided, is to put one's head firmly into the sand; romantic anachronists need not apply. As long as Muslims, money and capital markets co-exist,there will always be a need for Muslims to put their money into some kind of a market (even a little money in a checking account circulates into global capital markets). The question Muslims should really be asking themselves is: What now? Whether they would not rather keep their money in the most Islamically acceptable manner available to them given the options. And while new customers might be forgiven some level of healthy skepticism, we should all under- stand the limits of our own unqualified ijtihads1 when declaring something a bid'a.

Angels in Islamic Concept As Portrayed by Quran

(In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful, all praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger)

Angels are beings that, according to Muslim concept, are there to perform worship of the Almighty Allah. These angels are very important in reference to the faith completion for a Muslim.

The Holy Quran mentions that the angels are made up of light and that they have no cognitive ability. Their only purpose is to do what the Almighty asks them to do. Muslims all around the world have rigid belief in the composition and the existence of angels, so if anyone tries to follow the pagan concept or influence that upon Muslims, that would be a step that will be ineffective.

Allah almighty mentions Angels in the Holy Quran As the following:

"Behold thy Lord said to the angels: "I will create a vicegerent on earth." They said "Wilt thou place therein one who will make mischief therein and shed blood? Whilst we do celebrate Thy praises and glorify Thy holy (name)?" He said: "I know what ye know not."(Surah Al-Baqarah)

This verse defines that the angels do exists and that they can be communicated with, and that they perform the worship of Almighty Allah.

"They followed what the evil ones gave out (falsely) against the power of Solomon; the blasphemers were not Solomon but the evil ones, teaching men magic and such things as came down at Babylon to the angels Harut, and Marut. But neither of these taught anyone (such things) without saying: "We are only for trial; so do not blaspheme." They learned from them the means to sow discord between man and wife. But they could not thus harm anyone except by Allah's permission. And they learned what harmed them not what profited them. And they knew that the buyers of (magic) would have no share in the happiness of the Hereafter. And vile was the price for which they did sell their souls, if they but knew!" (Surah Al-Baqara) Quran Reading

The verse from the Holy Quran mentioned above highlighted the fact that magic and pagan ways of intervening supernatural areas is a reality and is completely practical, however, all of this is not possible if Allah does not wish it so. It happens to test the faith of the believers and that of mankind towards one true GOD, which is Allah Almighty alone.

The link between the angels and the magical existence almost goes synonymous. Other mythical creatures are an unreal extension of the concept. The concept of angels remains the same, if not tampered, in the Christian faith and the Jewish faith since these are the religions that signify one GOD too. One more verse here will define another misconception that pagans try to inject us with, is that angels can determine what is wrong and what is right and might defy the Almighty Allah.

"He is the Irresistible (watching) from above over his worshippers, and He sets guardians over you. At length, when death approaches one of you, Our angels take his soul, and they never fail in their duty." (Surah Al-Anaam)

As it says, Angels never fail to perform their duty, this is how they are and this is how they will be, no matter how inspirational they may be, but a misconception about angels can directly infuse a faulty conjunction in the faith of a Muslim. TheQuran Reading is the direct source of any information on the Internet that you must consult when required.

How Islamic Union will Affect the Economic Development

Contemporary world politics make it necessary for nations to integrate into international unions in the interest of their own national security and economy. In these international unions, which are usually based upon geographic location, such factors as natural resources, trading blocs, and even cultural values play an important role. Many neighboring countries combine their resources under the auspices of such organizations, create defensive alliances, and cooperate on a wide array of issues. The goal of such unions is to preserve peace, control the arms race, resolve disputes through diplomacy, promote socioeconomic development, and protect fundamental human rights and democracy. At the present time, NATO, the OSCE, the EU, NAFTA, OPEC, ASEAN, the G-8, the D-8, and APEC are the foremost international political, military, and economic unions.

These institutions are subject to organizational reforms because of new members or a widening of scope. All of these organizations, formed in the aftermath of the Second World War, have contributed to creating stability and order in the world and have played a major role in global socioeconomic development. Member nations protect their economic and military interests, and also acquire a stronger regional and international position. Even the developed world perceives the necessity of such partnerships. The creation of free trade zones, regional trade agreements, abolished customs controls, and even a common currency (as in the EU) safeguard the future of member states. Defensive pacts enable member states to reduce military expenditures and to divert those resources to cultural and educational fields.

A similar organization will provide considerable benefits to Muslim nations. For those that are desperate for technological as well as economic development, the foremost step toward stability is the creation of a central organization or, in other words, a unified Islamic world under the auspices of the Islamic Union.

Economic Development and Increasing Prosperity

Economic cooperation is necessary on two counts: stability and development. Muslim nations must bring stability and solidity to their economies. Developing industries and making the required investments is vital, as is the need for a comprehensive development plan and the simultaneous development of education, economy, culture, science, and technology. While various sectors are developed technologically, the labor force's educational levels and standards must be raised accordingly. Society must be motivated to become more productive, and the resulting economic cooperation will play a major role in eradicating poverty, illiteracy, the unjust distribution of wealth, and other socioeconomic problems rampant in Muslim countries. This partnership can be formed only by the creation of free trade zones, customs unions, and common economic areas.

Most Muslim countries have geostrategic importance as well as rich natural resources (e.g., natural gas and crude oil). These resources and strategic opportunities, however, are not being used effectively. In the Islamic world, 86% of the population's living standards fall below $2,000, 76% under $1,000, and 67% under $500 per year. When the Islamic world's total resources are considered,(1) this is quite a paradox: Roughly half of the petrol consumed in the West is exported from the Islamic world, as is 40% of the world's agricultural production.(2) Many economists and strategists freely admit that the world economy depends upon the Islamic world's oil and gas exports, in particular those of the Persian Gulf.(3)

The Persian Gulf holds two-thirds of the planet's discovered crude oil reserves. Data obtained from research concludes that Saudi Arabia alone holds 25.4% of the world's oil reserves, or 262 billion barrels. A further 11% is found in Iraq, 9.6 % in the UAE, 9.2 % in Kuwait, 8.6 % in Iran, 13% in other OPEC member states. The rest is distributed across the remainder of the world.(4) Research commissioned by the U.S. Department of Energy shows that between 2000 and 2020, oil exports from the area will increase by 125%.(5) This means that the world will continue to meet most of its energy needs by imports from the Gulf region. Moreover, the Middle East has 40% of the global natural gas reserves; 35 % of these reserves are in the Gulf region.(6) Algeria, Libya, and other North African countries have 3.7 % of the world's reserves.

The Caucasus and Central Asia are also rich in oil, natural gas, and other natural resources. For instance, Kazakhstan has between 10-17.6 billion barrels of proven oil reserves, and its natural gas reserves are estimated at between 53 and 83 trillion cubic feet. Turkmenistan hasbetween 98 and 155 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserves, making it the fourth largest producer.(7) Some other Muslim countries have valuable mineral resources. For instance, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan are two of the world's leading gold producers. Turkey has one of the world's richest boron reserves, only recently discovered to be very important, and Tajikistan has the world's largest aluminum producing facilities.

These advantages will become more important in the twenty-first century, which some have already christened the "energy century." Energy is an essential element of modern society in terms of the military, industry, urbanization, and transport. Given that economic activity and manufacturing depend primarily upon energy, nations will do their best to achieve control over these energy resources. The Islamic world is not using its resources effectively, for many of its members lack the infrastructure and technology to increase the production and use their natural resources to develop their industries. Therefore, the resources' contributions to the country's economy are limited to export earnings. These countries do not have the means to process their own crude oil, use it in their industrial complexes, or to develop their industries. Worse still, some Muslim nations do not even have the necessary means to explore and research their natural resources or to discover and extract them. Explorations undertaken by foreign companies reveal that other Muslim nations have oil and gas reserves, but they cannot benefit from their resources.

Naturally, the ineffective use of natural resources is not the Islamic world's only economic problem. However, solving this problem can begin the process of solving many other problems. The economies of Muslim nations contain differences in structure and functioning. Some nations' economies depend upon mineral resources, such as the members of OPEC, while other nations' depend upon agriculture. These differences are also reflected, to some extent, in their social structures, such as the widely varying degrees of rural and urban populations. Developing complementary relationships and helping each other in their respective areas of expertise can turn these differences into a source of riches. All of this will be possible with the Islamic Union.

Joint ventures and project partnerships will be an important step in the right direction, for they will enable countries to benefit from one another's experiences and the income earned from investment projects will benefit all of the participating countries. Such mutual financial support is compatible with Islamic morality, for helping the needy and having a sense of social responsibility are important characteristics that Muslims strive to acquire. Many verses in the Qur'an remind Muslims to watch over the needy.

Society's internal cohesion must be extended to international relations. As international cooperation within a partnership cannot be one-sided, employment and income levels will rise in both countries. For example, one country will produce oil and another one will process it, and agriculturally dependent countries will be able to import the food they need from agriculturally developed countries. A manpower-poor country's need will be met by another Islamic country, while rich countries will be able to invest in and help out a manpower-rich country that does not have enough jobs for its people. This will be to the benefit of both. Sharing know-how and experience will increase prosperity, and all Muslims will benefit from technological developments.

Joint ventures that realize the Islamic world's unification of opportunities and means will enable Muslims to produce hi-tech products. The Islamic common market will enable Muslim-made products to be marketed in other Muslim countries without the hindrance of customs, quotas, and other cross-border obstacles. The marketplace will grow, the market share and exports of all Muslim nations will rise, industrialization will speed up, and economic development will bring progress in technology. The living standards and wealth of Muslim nations will increase, and their existing inequalities will disappear. Some free trade agreements are already in place between countries in the Gulf, the Pacific Rim, and North Africa. Trade agreements signed by Turkey are already operational in the Islamic world. Bilateral cooperation exists in some regions; however, their scope must be widened. Such cooperation will safeguard the rights and interests of all Muslim nations and lead to all of them becoming developed-a result from which all of them will derive a far greater benefit than if they do not cooperate with each other.

All of these can be realized only under a central authority's leadership and coordination. Achieving this will be possible if Muslim nations adopt the Qur'an's values and the Prophet's (May God bless him and grant him peace) Sunnah, or, in other words, if they adopt Islamic culture. The Islamic Union must lead the way to this cultural awakening, as well as the resulting political and economic cooperation.

Mutual cooperation among Muslims, part of the Islamic code, must be adhered to by all Muslims, for God commands people to refrain from avarice and to guard the needy and support one another. In fact, destitute people have a due share of the believers' wealth (Qur'an, 51:19). As the Qur'an proclaims:

Those of you possessing affluence and ample wealth should not make oaths that they will not give to their relatives, the very poor, and those who have migrated in the way of God. Rather, they should pardon and overlook. Would you not love God to forgive you? God is Ever-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Qur'an, 24:22)

He who has plenty should spend from his plenty, but he whose provision is restricted should spend from what God has given him. God does not demand from anyone more than He has given it. God will appoint ease after difficulty. (Qur'an, 65:7)

Our Lord also reveals that believers are one another's guardians (Qur'an, 9:71). The word "guardian" conveys such meanings as friend, helper, mentor, and protector. It also expresses the importance of cooperation and solidarity between Muslim nations. The cooperation that will arise from this fraternal awareness between Muslim nations will bring prosperity and wealth to Muslims and eradicate poverty, an important problem of the Islamic world. Societies that follow the Qur'an's values will not experience famine, destitution, and poverty. Muslims will develop their nations by following rational and long-term policies, establishing good relations with other nations and people, valuing trade and development, and learning from other cultures' experiences. This was so in history and, God willing, under the Islamic Union's leadership it will be so once again.

Eid-Ul-Fitr in the True Islamic Spirit

Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of month of Ramdhan. It signifies the end of the month fasting (the first day of the month of shawal) each Muslim derives the meaning holy benefits of Eid benefits of Ramadhan and their own personal spirit to some its like a steep upward stop culminating in the peek with magnificent landscape. To some it is like an opportunity to unwind after a hectic labor of one month.

Contrary to that some actually feel a true spiritual uplift of an untold value. This actually is the true spirit of Eid-ul-Fitr that has been defined by Holy Prophet (PBUH). Its significance is purely spiritual. It is the day when Muslim thank God for having there will, the strength and the endurance to observe fasting to obey his commandment.

The festival began with the first-sighting of the new moon. This day in the Muslim word, is the day of rejoicing and happiness it's also a day of forgiveness and making resolutions. The rejoicing however is not at the departure of Ramadhan. It is the happiness which man feels after successfully completing an important task.

The feast of fast breaking Eid-ul Fitr is God's reward for those who fast during the holy month the prayers of the Eid are a reason of unity and solidarity of Muslims all over the world. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) and all the Imams celebrated Eid and encouraged all Muslims to do it. They told Muslims to wear good clothes, put on perfume and go to mosque to recite Eid prayer. Hazoor (S.A.W.W) used to come out of his home on the day of Eid, reciting the Takbir to glorifying Allah in the loud voice. He advised us to exchange Eid greeting, visit each other, remember the poor by taking out Fitrana before the prayer, visit them at their homes and give them gift if possible.

The concept of the Eid in Islam is not however confined to celebration extravagance, luxurious feasts, friendly handshakes and embraces. The Muslims should rather devote this day to the worship of God and should pray before him to approve their vicious deeds and to forgive their sins. This is because the doors of His pardon are kept open this day and His blessings flow in abundance. On this day do honor God for his endless and all enhancing mercy.

Our holy prophet (Peace be upon him) has advised us to take special care of poor people on this day and include them in our celebration. But we remain busy in evaluating our near and dear ones but very rarely follow the advice of HAZRAT MUHAMMAD (PBUH). The poor are human being like us and they also have their wishes. We should give them due importance on this day at least.

Another day of celebration for muslims is eid ul azha commonly known as "Bari Eid" it is a celebrated in memory of sacrifice made by Hazrat Ibrahim of their beloved son Hazrat Ismail as ordered by Allah almighty. This day teaches us to sacrifice anything in the way of Allah just to oblige him. We sacrifice animals like goat, sheep, camels etc. as to refresh the sacrifice of Hazrat Ibrahim. On this day also, we should remember poor and distribute meat to them.

To conclude, we may say that eid is purely a day of celebration. But it also teaches us so many lessons of tolerance, patience, and loving people below our rank. In short, Allah has given us the day to celebrate but only celebration will be completed if we will add all people around us in it.

Islamic Clothes Promoting Islam With Slogan

With the ever evolving world looking for newer trends to promote and market to their targeted niche market, clothing articles with various slogans have become very popular. Islamic clothes with catchy phrases depicting Islam have also gained a lot of popularity amongst the Muslim communities. In particular Muslims living in non Muslim countries rely on these types of Islamic clothes to voice out their feelings about their religion.

Today the Islamic clothes with phrases like "I Love Islam", "Proud to be a Muslim" and many other similar ones can be widely seen all around Europe and the Americas. Young men and women in particular are very focused on stating to the world about their choice of being Muslim. For them it is important to let others know that regardless of being born in Muslim families, they choose to practice Islam for its teachings and values. Therefore, they opt to inform the people around them by wearing stylish Islamic clothes with religious phrases printed on them.

There are numerous Islamic clothes retailers who sell creative and captivating one line statements in favour of Islam. These slogans portray the true feelings behind Islam as opposed to the extremist and fundamentalist view that people have developed about the peace loving religion. Wearing these clothing items allows the younger generation to express their point of view and freedom in addition to letting the people around them understand the significance of Islam.

T-shirts, caps, bags and Islamic clothes for children are available in an array of colours, designs and slogans. People can choose the styles they prefer to wear and express themselves. These apparel and accessory items are easily available at numerous Islamic retail stores and online shops catering to the needs of the Muslims across the globe.

The most commonly seen attractive statements on Islamic clothes include:"Mini Muslim", "I only eat Halal", "Muslim for Life", "I Love my Prophet", "Allah's Little Angel" and "Jannah under mother's feet" to list a few. These slogans are not only eye catching but also create good feelings about the religion. Other messages include different names of Allah printed on apparel items or verses from the Quran in beautiful fonts and styles to emphasize the importance of these verses in a Muslim's life. These slogan bearing clothing articles are a great way to not only express your religion but to also promote the goodness behind its teachings.

Islamic Militants: America's First and Last War

Once again I am amazed by the accuracy of the Word of God, which states: "The last shall be first and the first shall be last" (Luke 13:30).

The "Barbary Powers Conflict" began shortly after the Revolutionary War and continued through the Presidencies of Washington, Adams, Jefferson, and Madison.1 The Muslim Barbary Powers (Tunis, Morocco, Algiers, Tripoli, and Turkey) were warring against what they claimed to be the "Christian" nations (England, France, Spain, Denmark, and the United States). In 1801, Tripoli declared war against the United States,2 thus constituting America's first official war as an established independent nation. Interestingly enough our first war as a nation was against Islamic militants. Two-hundred years later we are facing the same enemy. Thankfully this time our military might is prepared and ready. Let us however learn from history lest we repeat it.

Throughout this long conflict, the five Barbary Powers regularly attacked undefended American merchant ships. Not only were their cargoes easy prey but the Barbary Powers were also capturing and enslaving "Christian" seamen3 in retaliation for what had been done to them by the "Christians" of previous centuries (e.g., the Crusades and Ferdinand and Isabella's expulsion of Muslims from Granada4).

I apologize to Muslims for past human rights abuses committed against them by "Christians" who were not acting Christ-like but were most likely serving the imperialistic Roman church which was heretical. It was the Roman church that brought about the Dark Ages because the Bible was not translated into the language of the common man. Hence spiritual ignorance and darkness reigned, as did religious rulers who were without the Holy Spirit to reveal the heart of Christ to them.

In an attempt to secure a release of captured seamen and a guarantee of unmolested shipping in the Mediterranean, President Washington dispatched envoys to negotiate treaties with the Barbary nations.5(Concurrently, he encouraged the construction of American naval warships6 to defend the shipping and confront the Barbary "pirates"--a plan not seriously pursued until President John Adams created a separate Department of the Navy in 1798.)

Let us this time when facing Islamic enemies not act inhumanely as did the Roman church. Jesus exhorted us to love and pray for our enemies. This affords our enemies an opportunity to repent, reform, and be reconciled. On the other hand, in regard for military combat, let us arise to the challenge and not cower to Muslim militants threats and violence. Islam is intolerant and violent because spiritually it is impotent.

Christ Jesus came to establish His kingdom in the hearts of men, not to war for a political earthly kingdom. Nevertheless when necessary we must defend ourselves against hostile intruders and murderous Muslims who also misuse and distort their own religion as did the Roman Catholics during the Dark Ages for Christians.

Truly there is nothing new under the sun, as once again history is repeating itself as we approach the beginning of the end.

Silence - An Islamic Perspective

"Silence is gold" we say. In Islam silence is more than gold. There is a well known saying of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) on the value of keeping silent:

"Salat (prayer) is the main pillar of Islam, however remaining silent is better.

Sadaqa (charity) will extinguish the anger of Allah, however remaining silent is better.

Sawm (fasting) is a shield against the fire of hell, however remaining silent is better.

Jihad (holy war) occupies a high position in the deen of Allah, however remaining silent is better."

The human experiences tranquility by reducing four of his innate habits: Socializing, eating, sleeping and talking much. Islam puts much emphasis on controlling one's tongue. Speech is one of the inlets to the spiritual heart. Generally useless talk is most of what we utter. It is that which is said with little thought and less purpose. Surprisingly even talking about religion can fall into this category. Many Muslims talk about God and Islam without proper knowledge.

As for every day's conversations, they are all about arguing, backbiting, debating, and lying. Such speech has no value, or rather bears negative effects for it brings nothing but distraction with the trivial.

On the other hand beneficial speech according to Islamic teachings is whatever is wholesome and constructive. Commenting on public life is not considered spiritually harmful however only when our lips are sealed about the ordinary that beneficial speech becomes illumined. Excessive talking can be a serious threat to one's soul. The tongue has a privilege that other organs of the body do not, and that is to mention Allah's name and remember Him audibly. The essential cure to excessive talking according to Scholars is through constant remembrance of Allah.

We have often been taught to think before we talk but this aptitude seems to have been lost through time. While it may not be possible to spend every moment remembering Allah, it is part of the spiritual training to strive towards keeping one's tongue moist with dhikrullah (remembrance of Allah). After much remembrance with the tongue (some say it takes years), it becomes natural for some to be in constant contemplation and remembrance of The One, Allah. Silence in Islam, is simply Salvation.

Poverty to Profit: Islamic Microfinance - Part 1

Using Islamic microfinance to alleviate poverty

Poverty alleviation has traditionally been the domain of the interest-based development agency and profit generation has always been the mainstay of the corporation. Rarely have the two overlapped: corporate shareholders have no interest in giving money away and development banks have little to offer profit-oriented investors. Until microfinance. For perhaps the first time in economic development history the poor are seen as potentially profitable.

Microfinance is a financing tool that sustainably provides very small loans to the working poor. A handful of borrowers, usually 5 to 20 individuals, assemble themselves into groups. The first set of loans are extended to an initial subset of individuals within the group, for instance 2 out of the group's 5 individuals, and once these loans are repaid, a second subset of individuals receive their loans. This continues through the entire group, circulating until a final loan is extended to a designated group leader.

Variations of this general theme abound but the basic underlying principle remains the same: a borrower is much more likely to repay on time if not doing so affects one's selected group partner, usually an acquaintance. The fear of a faceless bank is replaced with the mercy for one's own neighbor. This non-traditional concept of "social collateral" banking allows the poor to break out of the poverty cycle: the provision of capital allows for greater business investment, which leads to increased income, resulting in higher household savings and eventual financial independence.

THE ORIGINS OF CONVENTIONAL MICROFINANCE

Microfinance grew out of the failure of cooperative movements and government-sponsored initiatives for concessional individual lending. With some of these heavily subsidized programs yielding repayment rates as low as 40%, there is little wonder they were short-lived.

In the1970s, Bangladesh's Grameen Bank revolutionized the development world by extending small, interest-based loans to the extreme poor, an economic group commercial banks refused to lend to and development banks found difficult to sustain acceptable repayment rates with. But by assembling individuals into self-selected borrowing groups, particularly in homogeneous settings, peer pressure and peer assistance lead to a form of informal monitoring that paved the way for continued success.

What began as a $26 loan to 42 village women is now a major industry in Bangladesh, with 4 million Grameen borrowers and over $4 billion in disbursed loans, of which over $300 million is currently outstanding. All collateral-free.

... ITS PROBLEMS...

But critics of Grameen and other conventional micro financiers cite Draconian interest rate levels as a major impediment to many borrowers becoming truly self-sufficient; an astronomical 22% interest rate charge at Grameen (measured on a declining basis), and as high as 50% elsewhere. Anathema to Muslims, for whom taking even the smallest amount of interest is forbidden, evidenced by a number of Qur'anic verses (2:275-279, 3:130, 4:160-161, 30:39), numerous rigorously authentic traditions of the Prophet, may God bless him and give him peace, the consensus of the four schools of jurisprudence, and the ravaging effects of decades of low-interest development loans to poor countries.

The single biggest problem with conventional microfinance, and for that matter all interest-based finance, is that the borrower has to make his interest payments even if he is unable to meet them. If his business succeeds, he pays; if his business fails, he still pays.

At a time when a young business should be concerned with innovation and expansion, an interest payment looms unavoidably large at the end of the month. Putting it off only exacerbates the problem, as interest payments often become larger than the original loan principal with the passage of time. It makes little sense for small, under-capitalized micro-entrepreneurs with nothing to fall back on to assume debt instead of equity. In a protracted market downturn, when large groups of borrowers are unable to meet their repayment requirements, this precipitates heightened levels of market volatility. End game: debt forgiveness on the lender's part or increased impoverishment on the borrower's, means bonded labor in some countries.

Further, interest-based transactions tend to focus attentions on the process-oriented task of repayment rather than on the result-oriented task of increasing profit. And because no direct causality exists in an interest-based transaction between the size of the payout and the profitability of the business (since interest payments are already fixed), conventional microfinance requires additional technical intervention on the part of the lender in order to promote business efficiency. Equity-based investments, on the other hand, already assume an effort toward business efficiency because both the investor and the worker share the same goal: increasing profit.

... AND ITS ISLAMIC ALTERNATIVE

Islamic microfinance provides an innovative interest-free alternative to conventional micro- finance. Perhaps not so innovative since interest-free, equity-based investing has already proven itself as the predominant corporate financing tool for decades, from Wall Street investment banks to Silicon Valley venture capitalists. And while the players may change, the transaction dynamics remain largely the same, whether the transaction is worth billions of euros or hundreds of rupees: an investor takes a stake in a business for a share of the business's profits, undertaking commensurate levels of risks.

Based primarily on the profit-sharing principles of equity-based finance, Islamic micro- finance offers greater resilience than conventional microfinance. If a business fails, nothing is paid; if a business succeeds, profits are shared. Risks and rewards are always pro- proportionate to equity shares. So while any return on capital in the form of interest is completely prohibited in Islam, there is no objection to getting a return on capital if the provider of capital enters into a partnership with a worker or entrepreneur and is prepared to share in the risks of the business.

The key dynamics of conventional microfinance arrangements are, however, still retained in Islamic microfinance, with small groups of self-selected individuals providing each other with emotional, technical, and financial support. By assembling themselves into their own groups, clients choose as partners only those individuals they trust most, filtering out to large extent poorer credits.

Understanding Islamic Theology

Islam is the fastest growing religion of the world. There are several misconceptions about this sacred and peaceful religion. Keeping this factor in mind a need was felt to write an article to convey the real Islamic Theology to the world.

Islamic theology is basically a part of Islamic studies. It is the study of beliefs which are related to Islamic faith.

According to Islamic Theology, there are six basic pillars of Islam, which are:

• Belief in One Allah

• Belief in all Prophets of Allah

• Belief in Angles

• Belief in all Holy Books by Allah

• Belief in The Day of Judgment

• Belief in Destiny

Islamic Theology is based upon the teachings of Holy Quran and sayings of Prophet (SAW). To understand the real Islamic Theology, one needs to study Holy Quran in detail and understand it correctly.

Muslims believe in oneness of Allah. They simply deny the Christian theology of trinity. They also deny the divinity of Jesus (PBUH). According to Muslims, associating partners with Allah is an unforgivable sin.

According to Islamic theology, a Muslim also has a firm belief in existence of Jin and angles. They believe that two angles are always with a person, one writes his sins and other writes his good deeds.

Muslims belief says that Allah has sent Prophets to every nation and every part of the world, and all of them were true Prophets. This belief in Prophets is also one of the basic beliefs to become a Muslim.

Last but not the least, Muslims have firm belief on the day of judgement. According to them, that day every person will be ordered to wake up from its grave and their good deeds and bad deeds will be told to them. According to their deeds they will be either send to heaven or hell.

Islamic Jewellery Worn for Allah's Blessings

Islam prohibits superstitions of every kind; fate is in the hands of Allah and every Muslim's life is dictated by Allah's will. Lucky charms and talismans are forbidden according to the teachings of the Holy Prophet. What all Muslims brethren believe in is using Allah's name for blessings and rewards of all kinds in this world as well as in the hereafter. That is why Islamic jewellery designs mostly have inscription of just the Creator's name; occasionally people will also get the Holy Prophet's name engraved on various ornaments.

Pendants are that specific item of Islamic jewellery that uses the name of the Almighty carved into intricate trellises and patterns. As these articles are worn around necks, it is done so with caution and respect. Constant remembrance of the Lord's name brings peace of the hearts and minds; it also creates harmony in the daily existence; and frees the soul from all worldly desires and tensions.

Other types of neck ornaments have Quranic verses carved on gold, silver or palladium; with the latest trend of using lacquer, they come in beautiful colors and designs. The most frequently used is the 'Ayat Al Kursi' the verse from the Holy Book in which Allah states his unparalleled qualities as the one and only God. These items of Islamic jewellery are popular and in demand all over the Islamic world.

Some verses of the Sacred Quran, 'Surah Al Naas, Surah Al Akhlaas and Surah Al Falaq' that are recited to ward off evil and satanic influences are also etched on plates and worn around necks. Their presence is considered to be the source of comfort and protection from lustful wanderings of the minds, sinful dwellings in the hearts and evil perpetrated by the devil.

Hollow pendants shaped like a book are a significant feature of the Islamic jewellery. Manufactured from gold or silver they have delicate designs etched on the surface. Followers of the faith place miniature volumes of the Holy Quran inside. In this way the Sacred Book is accompanying them at all times; the solace and comfort derived from its presence are manifold.

Imitations of the filigreed fence around the Holy Prophet's tomb are also utilized to design various articles of Islamic jewellery. Its intricate pattern is unique and requires a lot of skill to copy. Bangles, necklaces, rings and dangling earrings employing the pattern are purchased enthusiastically by many women.
