Is Darfur Gone?

Darfur is still an impenetrable region, difficult to locate on a map, but unhappily famous for the reign of terror which beasts its population. While the US President has ordered more troops to be sent up to Afghanistan to increase pressure against Taliban, in that remote African region, the Islamic forces are moving against Christians and Animists resident.

This tragedy had received no more attention than other genocides in the world and this cynic neglect is a reflection of the aridity of the western Governments.

Despite a cease-fire agreement and the presence of the African Union (AU) peacekeeping mission, extensive violence and a severe humanitarian crisis continue in that region. Tens of thousands of people have been killed and more than two million residents have been driven out of their homes.

Today a number of ONG rushed the attention of a small number of Countries, which provide assistance to the Darfur population. This area is the poverty-stricken region in the Sudan and it is about to become one of the poorest lands of the world.

Throughout recent history, Darfur population had suffered much cruelty, even being subjected to genocide, but they never abandoned their identity and faith, refusing to convert to Islam.

The Sudanese administration, while publicly denying its support to the paramilitary group, has provided funds to the militia and has participated in joint and brutal assaults targeting the Christian and Animist tribes. The Islamic paramilitary group, sponsored by that "gentleman" of Omar Al-Bashir, Sudan President, (the Janjaweed) is suspected also being connected with Al-Qaeda, which provides logistic support.

During the last years Sudanese government used power when resistance was encountered, though the vanquished were not compelled to accept Islam. Resistance is still strong and the "Islamic Civilization" remains in a stand-by position by using tactic of guerrilla warfare to maintain elevated pressure to the Darfur community.

It's no longer a human right problem but is a military question and NATO can provide an excellent strike against those paramilitary corps. Washington can take the condition and strongly clarifies with a bunch of Marines how the Human Right should be respected and recovery a situation that have reached its extreme.

Moreover it is also need a political review of that land, taking into consideration the proposal of strong autonomy under the protection of the NATO troops.

The Nobel for Peace can really bring peace to this land and give world an example of rectitude and interest for unlucky people.

In addition we are aware that infamous "Lord's Resistance Army", a brigand Ugandans army would be displaced by a few months in Darfur for "keeping peace" and provide assistance to the Janjaweed to resolve definitively the "problem".
