Elton John, supported by the religion of world peace

On Monday, 21 August 2006 Jake Shears, the vocalist for the band Scissors Sisters interviewed Sir Elton John at home of Elton in the South of France. The interview was recently published in The Observer Music Monthly Great Britain magazine. Here is a part of what has been said about peace global, political, religion and being homosexual Elton John:

Jake Shears:... "I hope this summer and the last couple of years and I think that world politics have really changed the gay movement." We are on the verge of world war and there are things so horrible happening with religious clashes.

Elton John: "I think that religion has always tried to activate the hatred toward homosexuals." Religion promotes hatred and rancor against gays... [former Soviet bloc] countries such as Poland, Latvia and Russia is a great move anti-gay and much of it is initiated by the Church...I can't stand any kind of racism and religious hatred; There is so much negativity with people. They used to put gay people in a closet, but now that they are making to [certain] religious people. What we should be doing as musicians are trying to meet people... We can not keep thinking of homosexuals as be banished; We can not keep thinking of Muslim people as being [exiled] fundamentalism in Islam. Muslim people must do something talk...From my point of view I ban religion completely, although there are some wonderful things about her. I love the idea of the teachings of Jesus Christ and the beautiful stories about him, that I loved in Sunday school and little collects all the stickers and put them in my book. But the reality is that organized religion does not seem to work. Turns people into hateful lemmings and isn't really compassionate... the world is close to climbing three of world war and where the leaders of each religion? Why not have a conclave;? Why not they unite? I said after 9/11 and people thought I was nuts: rather than further violence why there is no a [meeting of religious leaders]. Everything has to be dialogue - that is the only way. Get together all of each religion and say ' listen, this cannot go on. Why have all this hate?'...We are all God's people; We have to get along and [religious leaders] have to lead the way. If they do not, who most will do so? They will not do so and left to the musicians or someone to deal with it. It is like the movement for peace in the 1960s - musicians came through from [a people] getting out there and doing concerts for peace but do not seem to do more. We seem to be doing as collectors of funds for Africa and all but I think that peace is really important. If John Lennon were alive today he could be líderlo with a vengeance...I am totally against the war but violence is part of humanity and is going to happen, but as musicians, I think that we have to step up and say 'go'...People do not seem to protest in the streets, they are always blogs on the internet. They seem to be doing their protest online, and it is not enough []. You have to go out and be seen and be vocal, and you have to do and again. People have become apathetic. There was a great March in London when Britain decided to join the war against Iraq and Tony Blair are registered as saying: "people that today's March will have blood on their hands". Turned to bite him in the ass...We cannot solve all the world's problems in the West. What we have done [in Iraq] has accelerated an inevitable civil war when Saddam Hussein left power. I do not know the solution. I only know that everything that we can do as musicians - gay or straight - is to join and promote peace. Us we have been promoting [anti-poverty] but when you do a concert sometimes they forget about their emotions: it is the power of music and sport - are the two things that can do that...Dave (Furnish) and as a couple seem to be the acceptable face of homosexuality, and that is great. I've got to use that power to try to make as possible - or have - to try to improve the situation in Russia and Poland []. I'm with Poland in two weeks to tell something there because the situation is not good. If I am on the Board of Amnesty International just I can not sit and say nothing. It is not a problem of homosexual; It is a matter of human rights. I will fight for them, if I do quietly behind the scenes or vocally I get locked. I not can just sit; It is not in my nature any more. I am almost 60 years old, after all. I can not sit and blindly ignore it, and I do not.
