An Internet search on the subject of "Islamic Terrorism" brings up scores of items - the headlines telling the tales: "The entire world is suffering due to the barbaric activities of Islamic terrorists"; "Two Suicide Bombers Blow Themselves Up In Akki Marwat"; "More Killed in One Day by Islamic-Terrorists than Ku Klux Klan Killed in 50 years"; etc. The casual killings of civilians by Islamic terrorists take place in India, Pakistan, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and of course in Iraq and Afghanistan. And in the Muslim-dominated Gulf region, the terror attacks seem reciprocal: Sunni Taliban and Al-Qaeda terrorize Shiite regimes, while Iran-supported Shiites terrorize Sunnis in Egypt and Jordan; Yemen has become a center of both Sunni and Shiite terrorism. In the midst of this international mayhem comes attacks upon U.S. itself since Obama took office: the Camp Hood massacres and the "Underwear-Airplane Bomber" - which Obama and his spokes-people promptly down-graded to being "isolated extremist incidents" - an obvious unwillingness to acknowledge the common denominator of Islamic religious zealotry - instead adopting a stance of "political correctness". The comment on the Internet: "Obama Moves to De-Link Terrorism From Islam" - 339 related articles.
Does such an approach work to reduce terrorism? Analyses by terror experts in various newspapers and magazines suggest otherwise; "Islamic Extremist Terrorists are Motivated by Very Different Reasons than Western People Think"; "What Could Lead a Person to Cause His or Her Own Violent Death..."; etc.
One wonders, how - in the face of cruelty that belies comprehension - reason and rationality can conclude that denying the obvious will somehow diminish the threat - how zealots, willing to blow themselves up in order to kill an infidel or two would be mollified by conciliatory words to become non-violent? Western peace-lovers seem to think all it takes to modify thirteen centuries of history - in-bred violence and anger by Islamis into tolerance and amity (changing wolves into lambs), is to keep telling the Muslim world that Islam is a religion of peace. The history of Islamic violence upon the world scene is plain to everyone - yet western democracies seem oblivious, believing that rogue Muslim regimes - although having resorted to terrorism since the 7th century in settling any and all disputes - will, by the persuasion of diplomacy, suddenly put down their weapons (the caveat of the unthinkable danger to humanity from nuclear weaponry - if words and slap-on-wrist sanctions are ineffective - is apparently shrugged off by our leaders).
Domestic Islamic terrorism is also notably on the upsurge in Europe, mostly in urban capitals. According to France's Domestic Intelligence Service, Jihadists from Afghanistan, Algeria, and Pakistan, trained and indoctrinated in handling arms and explosives, constitute a new grave threat for France. Britain also, has become a focus of Islamic terrorism, Although Prime Minister Gordon Brown was an open supporter of Arab-Palestinian causes, his inauguration in June 2007, was greeted by three Muslim terrorist car bombs; also, according to British Security Service, "the most pressing current threat is Islamist extremist groups, which call for violence 'in defense of Islam'; and that most terrorists are British nationals, not illegal immigrants, and not even Islamist fundamentalists - just religious novices".
Meanwhile in America, the liberal media buries its head in the sand even as government leadership tries to come-to-grips with the causes and dangers of the Camp Hood massacre of thirteen Americans: the White House refuses to mention the words "act of terrorism"; the media censors out all politically incorrect information, e.g. that the killer was a Muslim. U.S. government protective agencies (FBI and Army), meanwhile, must grapple with the restraints of "political correctness"- which certainly works to block warnings about suspect extremist behavior of a member of a religious minority.
The primary responsibility of government is - supposedly - to protect its citizenry. Does Political Correctness have priority?
